I ended up visiting the place where they film this over the summer, it's in an outdoor museum where they restore and display old buildings. They have the actual repair shop fenced off, so you can't walk right up to it or go inside like all the other buildings there.

To replicate the item allocation system all players roll the same die (e.g. d6) and they add their position in the race to the roll. They then refer to an item chart to figure out which item they get.
Higher numbers = powerful items
Items like mushrooms appear on the chart multiple times

Clank! is a good game and I really enjoy playing it. But the 45-90 minute playing time it claims on the box is a complete lie
