By way of context, I am writing a young adult biography of Eleanor that will be published in the States in 2027. I love this personal detail, but I can’t use it if I can’t back it up. I’m relying on secondary sources and translated primary sources, leaning in on the most recently published.

Richard, thank you for your response! I don’t know, because my lack of Latin prevents me from reading the Pipe Rolls and Alison Weir mentions it in her biography of Eleanor, but without a footnote reference (her use of which is inconsistent). No other biographies mention it.

A question for #medievalsky. Is there any extant evidence of what a 12th century English “baby carriage” might look like? If the translation is correct there is a pipe roll reference for one purchased for Matilda, daughter of Eleanor of Aquitaine & Henry II, in 1156.

As a teacher educator, I ❤️ when multiple books on the same figure or topic come out. 👏🏻👏🏻 to @pwkidsbookshelf.bsky.social for seeing these books as a text set from which we all can learn about Eunice Foote, carbon dioxide, women’s rights, AND nonfiction writer’s craft!

Grateful to have our work on early 19th century children’s nonfiction out in the world!

Then and now, kids want to know things. They deserve high quality books that inform them about the world they live in.
