By way of context, I am writing a young adult biography of Eleanor that will be published in the States in 2027. I love this personal detail, but I can’t use it if I can’t back it up. I’m relying on secondary sources and translated primary sources, leaning in on the most recently published.
Richard, thank you for your response! I don’t know, because my lack of Latin prevents me from reading the Pipe Rolls and Alison Weir mentions it in her biography of Eleanor, but without a footnote reference (her use of which is inconsistent). No other biographies mention it.
A question for #medievalsky. Is there any extant evidence of what a 12th century English “baby carriage” might look like? If the translation is correct there is a pipe roll reference for one purchased for Matilda, daughter of Eleanor of Aquitaine & Henry II, in 1156.
