ChatGPT boss predicts when AI could cure cancer

ChatGPT boss predicts when AI could cure cancer

We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right.

Now that we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases.

In a few weeks, we plan to put out a new version of ChatGPT that allows people to have a personality that behaves more like what people liked about 4o (we hope it will be better!). If you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend, ChatGPT should do it (but only if you want it, not because we are usage-maxxing).

In December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our β€œtreat adult users like adults” principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults.

Just home from meeting the puppy that will be joining our family in a few weeks... Coco is adorable and the breeder is the very best that I have ever met.

Storm Amy has left me stranded in Dublin. I called BA to find an alternative flight home and they offered me a flight back to London from Inverness if I could make it there.

How in God's name do they expect me to get to Scotland.

Have a flight from Dublin now that will get me home 24hrs late.

I'd agree and find myself in a similar place, but I really dont see the problem that mass market AI is trying to solve. I can see the benefits of something like AlphaFold, but Grok?

Currently, its main purpose seems to be for dunking on people on Twitter with whom you disagree.

Me too. I used to live near(ish) to Leuven as a teenager and always welcome the opportunity to return to Belgium.

I know at least one publisher (a large corporate) that has tried to do this, so I think that some publishers at least recognize the issue here.

And they know a thing or two about unintended consequences.

I would also note that APC caps are likely to cause all journals below the cap to raise their APCs to the cap. Meanwhile, nature is absolutely not going to drop to the cap because the US is but one market.

So overall, I anticipate this raising the cost of publishing should the US follow this path

Worth noting that Dr Bhattacharaya is an editor on the Journal of the Academy of Public Health which charges an APC of $2000 (but may also may receive financial support from Real Clear Foundation who, I believe, funded its creation).

Maybe worth noting that Dr Bhattacharaya is an editor on the Journal of the Academy of Public Health (I am not getting into the potential biases of that particular journal here...) which charges an APC of $2000 (but may also receive financial support from Real Clear Foundation).

And I am not for a second saying that Grok is an LLM that is well trained because I dont know what the hell it was trained on.

Which is *exactly* my problem with AI tech.

You can see some elements of this with Grok on Twitter (it pains me to say) where "Normies" are sometimes changing their position based on Grok prompts.

Wiley have updated their website... the only route to compliance with the NIH policy is via paying an APC or using a transformative.

In a surprise to no-one Springer Nature and T&F are now publicly requiring all NIH supported papers to go down the gold OA route.

I imagine Elsevier and Wiley will follow in the coming days/hours.

Very happy with the east Asian inspired salad that I made for dinner. If only I had been able to find some green papaya.

Still for what was basically a slaw, the dressing was excellent.
