I really hope I live long enough to see the documentary on the true JK Rowling.
Same thing with the Post Office scandal. All the information was out there, I knew about it because I'd read some articles about it, and I wondered why heads weren't rolling, but it took a well-made drama to really bring the facts to the wider public's attention.
Think of it the way people think of Mother Teresa as a good person, when really she was a sociopath who treated people horribly. I knew that for years, and yet still I'd hear Leftists (like Jon Stewart, for example) use her name as a byword for "good."
We'll be reading articles thinking, "I've known that about her for years", but it will be news to the general public.
Everything is very, very public, they've become so used to their tweets not being held up to media scrutiny, that the second it turns, there is a mountain of evidence of bigotry to fall on them.
3. Rowling's transphobia is more subtle, to the point that the New York Times can publish articles, and people can make podcasts successfully portraying her as a victim.
4. The GC movement are litigious. Berns is dead, and the dead can't sue.
1. Berns is widely treated as a hero in the GC movement. 100s of GC people have her as their avatar on Twitter.
2. Her quotes are the easiest to demonstrate naked transphobia to people who might not be engaged in what the GC movement actually are.
I don’t know, if I spent all my time online claiming that a group of people were so terrifying and dangerous that they should be excluded from public life and any space I am in, I wouldn’t spend money to willingly go to a concert with up to 10,000 of them
Excellent.
"Gender critical" activists have been complaining for years about how unsafe they feel at their own events, because of the people they have to ally with. I remember one woman complaining about "Dangerous Far Right blokes" at one GC rally who was threatened with legal action if she kept complaining!
I loved the live tweeter who was saying "I don't know ten of the people on this line up", a list that included Ian Mc Kellen, Olly Alexander, Sophie Ellis Bextor etc.
I think a lot of those guys were only LGBT+ supporters as a cudgel to beat religious debaters with, but didn't really support LGBT+ rights as a matter of principle.
Long before the rise of transphobia, Hitchens was infamously anti-bodily autonomy (and also a rank misogynist.)
Dawkins' "Dear Muslima" letter could only have been written by a rank misogynist. Also, he did a video once about how homosexuality might have "survived" evolution where he postulated that perhaps the gay gene is switched on by something like "modern bottle-feeding."
I think we can say that it comes from a number of places, Catholicism being one of them, but there has to be another source feeding into the blokes of the former New Atheist movement (many of whom were simply misogynists cloaking themselves in LGBT+ rights.)
The faces of two women realising they are going to be the villians when they make the movie.
“She’s the exception, I am the rule.”
Such articulate cutting through of the nonsense around puberty blockers and eg Keira Bell’s detransitioning from Stephanie Lynnette on GMB this morning. It is also a refreshing relief to see a trans person actually being allowed to speak for once!
For example, in Ireland, Sinn Fein have presented themselves as the Leftist alternative, and yet, when it came down to it, they went along with the puberty blocker ban in Northern Ireland.
They can get all the way fucked if they want a vote off me after that. That's a lie I care about, deeply.
He definitely lied. It's nonsense to deny that.
Maybe I'm jaded, I just don't expect that he'll be much different from other politicians, in that he'll lie when lying is required.
So, I only care about the big lies.
100,000 trans people & allies fill central London for Trans Pride.
Mainstream media: nothing
Thousands of trans people & allies fill Wembley Arena for pro-trans gig with massive names like Sophie Ellis-Bextor & Sugarbabes.
Mainstream media: nothing.
This is what extreme media bias looks like.
If you have evidence that Polanksi is lying about his political promises, then I would care. Outside of that, I don't care that he's lying to try to save embarrassment over a former service he offered a decade ago. He should be mocked over it, but it says nothing else.
That isn't a quote by me, and I wouldn't care if this was Nigel Farage's past. I'd be far more concerned with his lies that he said he wouldn't raise taxes, and now said he will. That's important stuff. This is tabloid-fodder nonsense.
I'd be embarrassed at being a hypnotherapist in the first place, let alone this boob nonsense.
All politicians lie, that's just a fact of life.
Am I happy about that? No.
Do I care about this particular lie in the grand scheme of the sort of lies other politicians tell? No, I do not.
She's also trans, and she hates trans people.
She's also anti-vax.
I know it's a wild idea, but maybe she's just an ignorant, not very bright, conspiracy theorist?
I'm going to tell you right now: no-one will see justice. There'll be an apology from some government in the future. Most likely, most of the current GCers will be dead by then.
None of these people are experts in anything but their own prejudice and personal grievances.
"Why are you retweeting tweets calling black people "melanted savages" would seem to be a pretty pertinent question to someone who is presenting themselves to the general public as merely a deeply concerned citizen, wouldn't you think?
Like, right now, Keira Bell, a GC detransitioner, is being moved around the UK media, and not one single journalist on any of the shows she's on, in any of the news outlets she is featured on, makes any reference to her support of Tommy Robinson, her use of transphobic slurs etc.
It will be appalling that instead of listening to trans people, the healthcare professionals who simply wanted to provide them with the healthcare they wanted, and everyone who loves trans people, we listened to a bunch of celebrities and hasbeens and conspiracy theorists.
What will be forever appalling is how a woman with so much money, a lot of it made from the queer community, who loved her books about a boy who discovered a fantastic life after being kept under the stairs in his house, turned on that community, and so many people cheered while she did it.
She writes things she doesn't actually believe. In that 2020 essay, she cited wanting to protect her daughter and other women from the sort of domestic abuse she suffered as one of her reasons for being GC, and yet sits on her hands when the GC movement allies with convicted domestic abusers.
