Opus (2026) is a great debut film by Mark Anthony Green. Disturbing, great attention to detail, incredible cast. Malkovich SINGS!

Learned this on a visit to Mt Wilson Observatory, overlooking Los Angeles.

Made in Heaven, 1987, is NOT a comedy - not sure why it’s marketed as such. It’s such a weird film, but with a ton of heart. Cameos by Tom Petty, Neil Young, Ric Ocasek round out the cast of a romantic film spanning lifetimes. Good date night movie.

I first read β€œinitiate” as β€œINFLATE” and I was wondering what kind of iPad was that???

"This is Jack Burton in the Pork Chop Express, and I’m talkin’ to whoever’s listenin’ out there."

38 years ago today, Big Trouble in Little China changed the world. Happy birthday to one of the greatest films ever. Must be time for a rewatch.

Hallmark executives just called. The scene where you squish a rotten peach in your fist was cut by the network censors.

This is the only Chris Nolan film I’ve never seen. Insomnia. (2002) Al Pacino and Hilary Swank and Robin Williams. Not sure how this escaped my attention before. Seen it?

If you never got a chance to see this wonderful documentary, check it out. I think the last time I sat down to talk with Tim Jenison was at Quark’s bar in the (defunct) Vegas Hilton Star Trek Experience. I never worked for Tim but a number of friends did. Amazing guy.

Basically, the hero has a mannequin with marbles on β€œchi tracks” and tries to find the right set of strikes to move the red ball to the groin.
Took me a while to find this film. But it’s on Apple TV now.

Thanks to Channel 31 in Sacramento, my childhood memories of rainy weekends are filled with kung-fu films like this one. This one featured an unkillable villain with chi mastery, able to move his weak point around his body. The training sequences of the hero are so fun.

Something new for Bluesky - Deep Sky Friday.

Pic of the Triangulum Galaxy. Second closest galaxy to our own. Pic taken from Panamint Valley in California with a Seestar S50.

My daughter uses a single/double thumbs down gesture over anything obscene. Works well - guys don’t know how to react.

If you know me, I’m a lover of cinema from all ages. This 1924 film deserved a 100-year celebration, as it’s a masterpiece of the silent film era. Thief of Baghdad has been remade several times, but Douglas Fairbanks Sr defined the role in this film. Kino Lorber has a 2k remaster or try AppleTV.

Unpopular Opinion on a Movieℒ️ - I like The Bourne Legacy and probably rewatch it more than the other three. (β€œJason Bourne” is unwatchable in my opinion.) Jeremy Renner does a great job with this β€œBourne-Adjacent” story of behind-the-scenes machinations. Builds the universe.

Cloud Atlas. 2012.
This movie ended up on both the β€œBest of” and β€œWorst of” lists for the year. People either love it or hate it. 6 stories interwoven, same actors in all, playing different characters, races, sexes. Masterclass in editing. Some cheesy bits. I like it.

My travel movie over the long weekend: East of Eden (1955). 4k Dolby Vision on AppleTV looks great. Avoid trailer if you can because it spoils everything.

Classic movie recommendation: the original Terminator just got a 4K remastering with HDR and it looks pretty good! An effort was made to preserve the film grain, color looks great. Worth checking out. Hoping T2 gets a similar treatment.

Today’s vintage movie: To Live and Die in LA. Directed by William Friedkin. So many young actors who later made a name for themselves. Willem Dafoe, John Tuturro. Such weird editing and pacing. Iconic soundtrack from Wang Chung. Great new 4k master from Kino Lorber.
