I was 40 years old when I started medical school after a career in health ed & social work. That experience led me to caring for some of our most marginalized, neighbours: people experiencing homelessness, mental illness & addiction.

Homelessness is an independent driver of chronic pain.

Caused by rough sleeping, injury & recurrent infection.

Exacerbated by victimization, trauma, stigma + subtherapeutic analgesia in healthcare.

No wonder folks develop substance use disorders.

If only I could prescribe housing.
