I know I should take this seriously but this ICE tweet genuinely made me laugh.

It isn’t as if cheating is new. But now, as one student put it, β€œthe ceiling has been blown off.” Who could resist a tool that makes every assignment easier with seemingly no consequences? After spending the better part of the past two years grading AI-generated papers, Troy Jollimore, a poet, philosopher, and Cal State Chico ethics professor, has concerns. β€œMassive numbers of students are going to emerge from university with degrees, and into the workforce, who are essentially illiterate,” he said. β€œBoth in the literal sense and in the sense of being historically illiterate and having no knowledge of their own culture, much less anyone else’s.” That future may arrive sooner than expected when you consider what a short window college really is. Already, roughly half of all undergrads have never experienced college without easy access to generative AI. β€œWe’re talking about an entire generation of learning perhaps significantly undermined here,” said Green, the Santa Clara tech ethicist. β€œIt’s short-circuiting the learning process, and it’s happening fast.”

This isn't the only reason AI is bad, but it's why it is bad for students.

It really tells you everything you need to know about the Democratic Party that they can't go after Trump for the most blatant corruption scandal in the history of the presidency because some of them are in bed with the same corruption coin guys.

NEW EPISODE

In which we read the second part of Chuang's economic history of China and discuss the transition to capitalism, how to talk about transitions between modes, so-called "non-modes" of production and much more.

This is very concerning. Political activists and anyone else who opposes authoritarianism should switch to the fediverse. We cannot rely solely upon bluesky because it's not really decentralized.

so apparently, bluesky has started honoring government takedown requests from turkish government. i wonder what the nature of measures taken are. do the accounts or the content get taken down or do they get geofenced, @jay.bsky.team ?

Aren't boomers basically an exception because the post war boom was specifically a result of capital destruction? This can't be repeated because of nukes. How did people before WW2 view generations?

I went to an event packed with 100s of companies looking to contract with border enforcement and the Trump administration as they ramp up detentions and deportations. The main event sponsor is running the Guantanamo Bay Migrant Operations Center β€” they handed out tote bags.

Here’s everything I saw.

I couldn't even enter the stadium because it was packed. Ironically, this was the most inspiring part of the event. People has class anger, but Sanders and the squad can't harness it.

I attended the #asu Sanders rally last night. It was underwhelming. He proposed no real changes (at least at the rally) but rather passed the torch to AOC. She can't succeed because she lacks populist appeal, except in her blue gerrymandered district.

While researching for a paper I copy/paste large bodies of text to a doc file to distill the relevant info. When I do so, it usually causes the formatting of the text to get all messed up. This tool has saved me so much stress πŸ˜…
