It's 3pm and silksong isn't live on the PS store yet. Come on!
(ok, I can't actually play it for another four hours or so but still...)
Just realised how relieved I am that we're through the difficult era of people saying 'nuh-vidia' and needing to be corrected.
Me neither - they could have done something much more interesting with the box, and the whole music /experience thing didn't move me.
Only one set of arms so I guess not
Went to Somerset House and... Ranni? Is that you?
So it looks like enshittification is the new Dunbar number, right?
That's definitely an improvement!
Gee gees to untz untz: Had a great time at Ascot this weekend, despite the heat - helped that our horse won. Maybe the enclosure we were in, but a LOT less rowdy than I suspected it'd be. And A State of Trance on Sunday ... great sets but desperately needed more shade. Avoided sunburn though!
Interesting but a sad state of affairs: A freelance writer's experience of payments for content across major global sites. One surprise - a lot of them were more prompt at paying than I'd expected: docs.google.com/spreadsheets...
Seen this @sianysianysiany.bsky.social ?
Very interesting discussions / heresies on AI in PR yesterday with @petemarcus.bsky.social on LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/posts/petema...
According to Claire Danes, it's 'insanely cathartic' - give it a go! :)
Definitely the most interesting thing I've read all month: the impact of AI (and when you use AI) on neural connectivity: www.linkedin.com/posts/jiunn-...
TLDR: Research solo first, bring in AI later or yer brain will rot to pudding.
If you do nothing else today, take a moment to check out my friend @rebecca-newton.bsky.social's new Substack: substack.com/@thechiefdog...
It's a beautifully written, humane account of work, life and dogs. And with a strapline of 'Mostly well-behaved. Occasionally flatulent.' why wouldn't you?
Because there just aren't enough games in the world, I'm back playing Elden Ring again. It's *such* a good-looking game on PS5.
Very reassuring to someone the wrong side of 40 :) I always find cognitive discussions such a minefield: are we talking speed, volume of skills, breadth of knowledge, applied experience, ability to link concepts etc? If nothing else, it's a definitional issue as much as a neuroscience one!
100%. There was a piece in the FT this morning (on.ft.com/4jOs9WP) basically saying 'why haven't we changed how we think about gaming? It's a thing and people don't get it'. As a medium it's evolved to also make it easy to stay up to date not to mention often very high quality releases etc.
Nice to have a slightly more low-key awards do at the Oxo Tower last night. Thanks to the Data Centre Review team for hosting us at the DC Excellence Awards - we'll get the next one!
I'm sorry, this is not a dog. This is a wet balloon filled with pure cute. 16/10 but try harder next time.
But god damn, when Sanderson really Sandersons, it reminds you why you read the book in the first place. I've read 1100 pages of almost-filler, only to reach a point like in WoK where I was pausing on the way to work to read more because I HAD TO.
Also - Maya remains my absolute favourite.
Wind and Truth is *finally* getting exciting. On page 1130. Holy shit Sanderson, I love your work but you need a new editor.
A little gutted that the Tate's limited edition Life Membership is actually 25-year membership. It's a good saving but dammit if you sell life membership it should be life membership.
My gym is being refurbished. According to their latest communication, it'll soon have assault bikes and ski ergs. As an sff fan who hasn't been a gym member long, I can only imagine I'll return to some kind of wintry tolkeinesque battle scene with extra cardio.
Can confirm, it works 😂😂
This is magical
First up on the easter weekend holiday: a very civilised rave at the Royal Albert Hall - thanks @adriatiqque.bsky.social!
I’ve been laughing about this all morning
You might have seen Simon Callow on BBC Breakfast the other day promoting my very talented friend Mitch's film Murder Ballads.
It's a banger - and out today on all the platforms:

Or see the dark comedy horror trailer on IMDB:

Another a-Ha! fan :) I saw them at Wembley years and years ago and they were completely mystified by how much everyone enjoyed the gig - they did a couple of encores but it really felt like the last one was improvised (and as a result, was amazing!)
Today UK authors are protesting against Meta for stealing our work to train their AI model. Authors earn an average of £7000 per year, we are not rich, and yet a trillion dollar company decided it didn’t want to license our work fairly as it was “too expensive”
Theft is not a valid alternative.
