In a world of disaster capitalism, be a rebel: ride a bicycle and buy your clothes 2ndhand from charity shops. Also, all the best people have trees in their bio. Now tell me, where will your next bike ride be? https://www.WillCycle.com

when later on, I passed 1st the 2 people, then the 3 ebike riders. They were all spent.
Even better - I passed the ebikes at the top of a nice descent, where their fat-bike knobbly tyres meant they'd have no chance keeping up with me.
I'll admit to feeling a tad smug at that point πŸ˜‚

Yup, had that too. Yesterday, on an 18% climb, 21 miles into my ride, I was overtaken by 3 people on ebikes, then again by 2 people on normal bikes, who made that hill look flat.
I'll admit to feeling envious at that point, though I must point out all the overtakes were good.
But I was very chuffed

How about you scale back the raging sarcasm a bit?
Also, that same headspace benefit applies to any other cyclist. However, if you have to slow, and wait for an oncoming cyclist, who greets you, and you refuse to acknowledge them, that's inexcusable.

Keir Starmer and David Lammy are taking an extraordinarily dangerous gamble with our individual liberty This week, MPs will vote on the second reading of the Courts and Tribunals Bill. Don’t let the anodyne name fool you – this is one of the most revolutionary pieces of legislation in our…

The Courts and Tribunals Bill will remove your right to a jury trial for serious criminal offences.

Toff magistrates/judges will decide your fate.

Chances of miscarriage of justice will increase. Working class, poor, minorities will be the biggest losers.

e.g. if for a 40hr wk you spend 10hrs commuting, divide salary by1.25

If it costs Β£3k in travel costs, deduct that from the balance too. Use actual train fares, or if driving, the HMRC rate that applies.

Then ask if it’s really worth taking that job.

There's an inflation wave coming. How worried should we be? Economic consequences are an intrinsic aspect of the Iran conflict, writes BBC economics editor Faisal Islam.

The most effective way to protect yourself against the oil price shock is to go green. Solar and wind keep powering regardless of the war. Batteries store energy cheaply at night and release it when expensive. Electric cars don't suffer price hikes at the pumps. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Again, it's usually roadies. I've cycled in tight packs where your arms are touching those of the two riders either side of you.
But to treat cyclists you don't know like that is a proper dick move.

"Urbanism is ableist!" "Reducing car dependency is ableist!" "Not everyone can ride a bike!" etc. have become very effective thought-terminating clichΓ©s, resulting in people ignoring, dismissing or even badging ableist disabled people simply for advocating for accessibility for non-drivers.

2558 drones and 19 cruise missiles

Imagine how much suffering would have been prevented if the west spent as much on Ukraine as on the war on Iran.

Also: The Iranian regime is evil and it's death is a good thing but a war which will hurt the civilian population is neither lawful nor ethical.

Somewhere a REFUK London Assembly Member will be formulating an objection to cycleways on the basis they make it easier for illegal aliens to invade us.

All of what you said is true, but I can add to that: Labour *actively* support the genocide in Gaza and now chose to participate in an illegal war in Iran.
Starmer is a war criminal and anyone defending Labour at this stage is morally bankrupt.

Yup. You daren't visit any Reach PLC page without using an ad-blocker, as their sites are utterly unusable.
Nasty blummin co though, who regularly stokes anti-cycling hatred, just for clicks.

There used to be a Chrome extension that, if you clicked on a Daily Heil link, would redirect you to a page full of kittens.
I need something like that especially for my phone, but for any and all Reach PLC links!

Oh, for structured training they're essential and have enormous benefits.
I just don't like them πŸ˜‚

I guess some people are just extremely and deeply insecure.

Yeah, I'm fine, thanks. Just not my brightest moment πŸ˜‚

I have a smart turbo. I should sell it, as it's sat there gathering dust. Haven't used it in years.

I'd MUCH rather ride outside, even if it's sleeting.

my mate said "Not such a fast big shot as you thought, now are you?"

The arsehole didn't even respond to that.

07.03.2026 19:06 β€” πŸ‘ 7    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

The Grande route passes through Princetown twice, and on our 1st approach, up a reasonable, but by no means brutal climb, we caught up and overtook the arsehole on his Dogma. He had burnt all his matches, and I sincerely doubt he finished the route.
As we overtook him, we were still chatting, then

07.03.2026 19:05 β€” πŸ‘ 9    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

If you're familiar with the route, you'd know what Holne Chase is, and how that climb splits the riders up very early on. Many riders get off and walk their bikes up there, which is annoying, as they block the very narrow lane, so those of us who do cycle up there are delayed.

the back. Just before the pen closed, an utter arsehole came pushing and shoving his way to the very front, wheeling his Β£12 000 Pinarello Dogma. You could buy 24 of our bikes for the price of his bike!
My mate and I agreed that he was an arsehole, but at least we wouldn't see him again.

ever sportive. A mate and I entered the Dartmoor Classic - the 107 mile, bastardly hilly Grande route.
We both had a B'Twin Triban 3 road bike, which were the cheapest of cheap.
Because we didn't want to get in the way of faster riders, we deliberately set off in the 2nd pen. And then we stood at

Or, if they're on a road bike, but it costs less than the price of 5 kidneys, you still refuse to acknowledge them.
Why? Are you actually a petty, deeply insecure little boy, without any manners?

Truth is, you're actually an obnoxious arsehole.
On a related note, here's a little story of my 1st

07.03.2026 18:57 β€” πŸ‘ 9    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Time for a little rant. Roadies, are you (on average, and there are a small number of exceptions) actually THAT insecure that you won't even acknowledge the presence of another cyclist (let alone greet them back!) just because at that moment in time they're not in Lycra on their road bike?
Pricks!

off in the shower, as it was stuck to the wound.
On a related note, does anyone require any first aid?
I can be available to help at short notice! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

It broke the skin and started bleeding immediately, but I wasn't even halfway on my bike ride, so I pressed a serviette against it, to soak up the blood, and pulled my sock up to keep it in place. That worked and it was fine for the rest of the ride.
Was slightly less than fine washing the serviette
