I feel like local DC bike parents will be able to speak to this MUCH more knowledgeably, but I hear excellent things about Bunch electric cargo bikes for EXACTLY this situation (kid transport).

I don't know that this would even be possible, but the fact remains that blue states fund red states. Is there *any* way for us to just...stop? At the state level, hold all that federal tax money they need to operate hostage until they cut this shit out?

I love how these Silicon Valley dudes who were basically in the right place at the right time, guessed right, and hit the VC lottery translate that to "I am a genius about absolutely everything" and no one in their orbit seems to question or push back on that belief at all.

Washington Post editorial board: "Democrats just marched into a shutdown trap" which is bullshit because this government shutdown is 100% on the Republicans who, may I remind you, currently control ALL THREE branches of the federal government.

By contrast, the Philadelphia Inquirer editorial board gets it right: "There are no winners in a government shutdown, but Democrats are right to fight." RIGHT ON, PHILLY!

When you run on "government is the problem, not the solution" you have a strong incentive to ensure that exact situation eventuates.

And it's really fun when they do. One of my best & most memorable bus rides ever was on the 90 with a middle school class & their teachers heading up to U Street to do the DC Mural Walk as a field trip.

I had read that birds will eat them but not when they’ve been eating tree of heaven themselves bc it makes them bitter.

This stuff ROCKS. Once it's out of the oven & cool, slice it up & freeze it. Then just pop slices straight from the freezer into the toaster, slather with butter & jam, & enjoy!

Grease two loaf pans & dust with cornmeal
Divide batter into loaf pans
Rise ~1 hour
Heat oven to 400
When oven is hot, sprinkle tops with additional cornmeal
Bake at 400 for 35 minutes
