My 90 year old mother, who has also been a Canadian citizen for 50 years, is coming to the UK tomorrow for the funeral of her oldest friend. She is distraught. Thankfully we noticed this issue last year so she has already gone through the long & complex UK passport process. However >

Lol. It doesn't matter--the more comments, the more people who are affected by it will see it. It probably includes people who don't even know they are dual citizens. And people should hold governments to account!

I think it's fair enough to want warning of it. It takes time to apply for a passport, so some people have found out late and had to cancel trips. I agree that it's a privilege to have dual citizenship :)

It's a change to the rules that hasn't been widely publicized, so it's catching a lot of people by surprise. Until now, you could go to the UK on your other passport and it was fine.

Of note for Canadians with a British parent: “We also have the group that are now considered dual citizens because their parents were born in the U.K., who have always been Canadian citizens, that under these rules technically now need to apply for a U.K. passport.”"
