Fannie Lou Hamer would later be honored in the National Women's Hall of Fame and receive, posthumously, the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Joe Biden in January of 2025.

As co-founder of the National Women's Political Caucus, Hamer also emphasized the importance of moving beyond the ballot box by encouraging and educating women on how to run for public office, even making a Congressional run of her own. 2/3

We are proud to highlight the life and legacy of Fannie Lou Hamer. Hamer is best known for her work advancing voting rights for people of color, notably drawing attention to/organizing around literacy tests and poll taxes that kept her and thousands of others from exercising their right to vote. 1/3

Undeterred by rain, cold, and snow banks, League members from the Worcester Area and Grafton/Shrewsbury Leagues stood up for due process today at Plymouth County Corrections Center. Thank you for making the trip!

In a true display of intersectional activism, Scott King would later in life include LGBTQ+ activism, the Women's movement, economic relief, and opposition to apartheid in her activism work. Coretta is a powerful example of what commitment to empowerment, advancement, and equity looks like. (3/3)

Working alongside her husband as a civil rights activist, Scott King worked to utilize her talents as a musician to connect with other black women in the civil rights fight, and often advocated for her husband both in life and death. Scott King spearheaded MLK Day and founded the King Center. (2/3)

This week, we're featuring Coretta Scott King. Scott King is most known to many as the wife of iconic civil rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., but her personal accomplishments are nothing to bat an eye at. (1 of 3)

In addition to her work as an educator and journalist, Wells also founded the first Black women’s suffrage organization and was one of the founders of the NAACP. Wells' trailblazing work to combat racial violence and gender inequality paved the way for future movements. (2 of 2)
