Lies I tell myself to get through the day:

Yes, this is the last reusable coffee cup you will buy. You won’t loose it this time or start hating its texture. It has a place for your name and order. It has nice colours. This is the one.

Brain, don’t fail me now…

My brain has three modes

1. Don’t know, don’t care, you choose

2. Let me tell you my 16 point thesis on why all edible leaves should be classified ‘lettuce’

3. I think that was a cat. People should keep cats in doors. I should buy Lego minifigures. Did I book accommodation? What’s that sound?

As someone in their mid-40’s, somehow I skipped the concept of grammar and pronunciation at school. There are some things that I know, but I absolutely don’t understand about my own language.

So here I am, minding my own business, suddenly learning about the Bossy E… 🤯

Twitter post/pohoto from JK Rowling who sits on what looks like yacht, taking a puff of what looks like a cigar. She holds a cocktail close to her face and looks smug as fuck. Text on tweet: I love it when a plan comes together. #SupremeCourt #WomensRights. Text on screen: our.moral.imperative British billionaire JK Rowling has posted several gloating tweets today after the UK
Supreme Court ruled that only 'biological women' legally count as women, excluding trans women from legal protections and safeguards.
Rowling's vicious smear campaign against trans people in Britain has been going on for several years now and has played a major role in cultivating the extremely hostile and toxic environment that exists in the country towards trans people, particularly in the name of liberal 'feminism'.

Shards of red and orange plastic 'glass' laid out on a black background.

Not sea glass but fragments of plastic car tail lights, indicators and brake lights, probably washed into storm drains after heavy rain, eventually making their way to the sea. #oceanplastic

Oh! Thank you for that info!

When you say no longer eatable, what does that mean? Like on the vine too long?

A glass jar with a silver lid. Inside the jar are white seeds floating in water. Be glad you can’t smell via the internet, because it’s already vaguely funky.

Today I’ve planted more things and attempted to seed harvest from the very large patty pan squash from last week. I tried this a few weeks ago, and accidentally made a smell that evacuated the house. The smell startled my dog. Fingers crossed this goes better!

A screen shot of a message chat exchange. The first message, on the left, is a screen shot of a text that says “Shan’t”, with a thumbs up and a thumbs down emoji. This picture is has both a thumbs up and a thumbs down emoji reaction.

The next message says “Fixed it”.

The next message is a screen shot of the previous screen shot, with (again) a thumbs up and a thumbs down.

Just in case you lost count, there are 5 thumbs up and five thumbs down, split over two screen shots.

I’ve been with Luke since 1999. Sometimes people ask me, “How does one build a relationship that can withstand the trials and tribulation of life?”…

It’s all about effective communication.

A large patty pan squash, so big it almost doesn’t fit in my hand. Plus weird squiggly lines on the skin of the vegetable. Small green sprouts pushing through some dirt

I went away for a weekend, and came home to find this monster of a patty pan squash. Wild. I have no idea what the squiggly bits are on it, I’ll have to do some research. Also, a row of carrots has sprouted!

A small, dainty, mushroom popping out of wet mulched ground. Photograph is black and white.

A pretty little mushroom spotted in my garden this morning. A reverse google image search tells me it might be Parasola auricoma? I love the smell of petrichor after a storm, but mushroom spotting is a very close second :)

Today, I’ve added more things in punnets! And instead of doing the tape thing, I planted into a trough of seed soil for the direct planting component. Fingers crossed :)

In the meantime, I’ve realized I could make a dope spreadsheet to track all this data. Automated maths will sort this puzzle out!

Second weekend of staggered planting:

On the upside, anything that went into a punnet seems happy, and ai noticed the direct planted beans are growing.

On the downside, I don’t know if it was the sun or the make-do seed tape, but carrots/beetroots/raddish seem to have stalled.

A copy of The Diggers Club deed annual open under a notebook with planting planning. In the background are packets of Diggers Club seeds. Home made seed tape placed in a raised garden bed, ready to have soil placed on top. Three pots with seeds planted in them - 1 Brussels sprouts and 2 cauliflower.

It is hotter than a volcanic fart, but I sorted out the first week of February’s plantings today. I’m going to try and stagger it a bit, because 400 Brussell Sprouts at the same time seems like a mistake. Hopefully they’ll grow!

The best part of House Flipper 2 is painting directly onto brick, no under coat, no prep, no specialized paint, and it comes out like perfectly painted plaster. This is the dream.

In gamedev, we joke about how we shouldn't care so much because "we ain't curing cancer" so chill, right?

But you know what? These last few weeks reminded me that the Arts, esp accessible Art like videogames is incredibly important because games have a big place in sculpting cultural norms.

Whoops! I think I let this one get a little big! I found it hiding at the back of the plant. I think the vine might be towards the end of its season and I’ve just learned what powdery mildew is (dang it).

I think I’m going to try saving seeds from these two :)
