it starts happening via him getting more and more melty, until the melting ink starts becoming tendrils that keep him stuck in place, and then his form melts into this big cocoon until it hatches into the ink demons new form?

So when they encounter the ink demon and inky goes after Henry *instead* of Joey, joeys like “alright I may not have all of the real joeys memories, but I know for a fact that that demon choosing to go after anyone except me first isn’t right. What happened?”
