A pot of Cymbidium Orchids inside a greenhouse in Kew Gardens. They have white petals on the outside and a mix of maroon and cream in the centre. They have long, narrow, green leaves.

It's not an HG Well's anniversary, but the March 1908 'Cosmopolitan Magazine' (vol.XLIV no.4) has an article by Wells entitled 'The Things That Live on Mars' ("a description based on scientific reasoning ..."). So here are the illustrations by William R Leigh. [See archive.org/details/well... ]

An intriguing item Listed as a C12 or earlier stoup bowl with reversed animal head and foliate carving, it looks to me as if it was originally a carved capital for something else. Does anyone know what it might have been?

My wolpertinger (fanged, winged hare with antlers and squirrel tail) print made with kitchen litho in black, green and yellow on cream coloured washi paper with bark inclusions. It has a black outline, green fur and yellow striped open wings.
This is one of a very small edition of hand-printed aluminum foil lithographic prints of a wolpertinger, a composite creature from German folklore. A mythical deer-hare hybrid, something like a jackalope, often described as a fanged hare with antlers, bird parts (like wings or feet or even beaks) π§΅
