This is different. He is assumed to be dead, and vance is claiming he's ready to take over. trump would never let those things happen without fighting back. He would be publicly mocking us for thinking he was dead and vance would be "taken care of" for claiming he would take over.

Unfortunately, sometimes you have to use what will work and will be most effective the fastest. When playing by other people's rules, you do whatever you have to do to get the right result.

trump speaks to their deep-seated emotions- most notably hate, anger, and insecurities... and an intense distrust of others. He tells them what they want to hear and reinforces their comfort zone.
