Grammarly's AI-fueled edits -- using my name - suggested making up sources and writing vague insinuations.
In my latest for @nytopinion.nytimes.com (gift link) I describe Grammarly's terrible edits in my name -- and call for a federal right of publicity.

"I got my PhD by writing prompts instead of doing research, I'm winning"
got some bad news, there still no jobs and now you also know nothing
Non-rhetorically: what is the point of going into debt for grad school if you don't actually learn anything?
Pete Hegseth will spend eternity asking himself why heaven is so hot
In the 1920s, there was an enormous Klan-aligned caucus in the House of Representatives that passed an immigration restriction bill designed to keep out Catholics and Jews because they supposedly posed an existential threat to American civilization. 100 years later, here we are.
More specifically: the Oath Keepers put up billboards urging military to disobey illegal orders near military bases during the Obama admin. wtop.com/news/2013/07...
omg its another thing antigov extremists used to frivolously worry about like violations of 4th and 5th amendment rights (#ReadMyBook) and now that concern is coming from pro-democracy actors in the US because we actually are seeing 4th and 5th amendment violations all over the place

Does anyone know something about Vot Tak TV, a public Polish tv station that broadcasts in Russian?
This is Peanut. He's on someone's lap, wearing a fleece-lined jacket, and safe inside a car. But he's positive he could take that wolf. 12/10 (TT: peanutthepomapoo)
What a weird event
Immediately disqualifying for the job for which he has been nominated. The 4th Amendment specifies it’s “the right of the people,” not of citizens.
We cannot allow someone who doesn’t understand the 4th Amendment to be the head of DHS.
It's a constant effort to design LLM resistant assignments. I'm having some luck, but largely by shifting away from the higher-level work of writing a long essay for example.
I don't know how to create LLM resistant quant methods (or coding) assignments.
One reason I'm glad I don't teach quant or coding classes regularly: I have no idea how to enforce the rules I'd want to make for that class around LLM use!
Is it *possible* to (somewhat) appropriately use genAI to write code? Almost certainly yes. Just like there are less-objectionable ways to use genAI in writing (like if you as a human stand behind every single word written by the LLM).
Either way tho, a shortcut that defeats the point of higher ed.
3) to use LLMs in this way (ie able to check output), you have to know some level of code in the relevant language, and most students who use code AI don't have that knowledge. So it ends up being the same kind of cognitive shortcut as LLMs for writing.
I am stubbornly/annoyingly opposed to using LLMs for code, which might make me an outlier.
3 reasons: 1) environment, 2) built on theft, 3) the one specific to this case (cont.)
I can’t shake the feeling that AI’s relationship to humanity is essentially parasitical, and while there might be some beneficent aspects of it in the short run, ultimately this will end like all parasitical relationships do. Can anyone recommend something I could read that argues otherwise?
The Coalition for Independent Technology Research has filed a lawsuit with the @knightcolumbia.org and @protectdemocracy.org challenging a US State Department policy to revoke or deny visas of non-citizen researchers because of their work studying the societal impacts of technology. (1/4)
We’re still murdering people in “drug boats” even as we start a new war in Iran. Six people today.
Let me be clear: I’m glad Kristi Noem was fired. But we still have to abolish ICE.
Made it to Friday but at what cost
Sorry I'm not more open-minded about LLMs, it's just some fucking maniacs shoveled out a bunch of useless bloatware featuring that technology, did not give me any chance to opt out, reorganized the entire economy around it, zeroed out gains made by green energy, and made it impossible to buy RAM
A war that isn't a war, documented with videos that may or may not be real, funded by elected leaders who are neither for nor against it, is the most dystopian thing that's happened in my lifetime
Outward appearance is not indicative of internal moral character! It just is not! Using a concept that is beloved by racists against those same racists does not rescue it from their clutches and weakens YOU, not them
Wait — IRGC control of the country was the plan?!?

"American innovation" now refers to making a kind of atrocity cronut by combining insider trading with war crimes.
