We’re not dealing with brilliant strategists cleverly laying traps, we’re dealing with impulsive whiners whose advantage is contempt for laws, norms, and morality.

They’re not pulling some elaborate trick, they’re just willing—even eager—to do things regular, principled people consider off limits.

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

Pam Bondi admits she spoke to Apple to "get the ICEBlock app taken down." Sounds an awful lot like coercion to suppress disfavored speech to me. A clear violation of the 1st Amendment.

I’m curious about this because it seems like the first step towards implementing federation in practice on this network. And federation at scale (like Mastodon) comes with pluses and minuses, of course!

I’m really curious to follow Blacksky’s development, as the first big alternative to Bluesky that taps into the same library (see upstream in @rude1.blacksky.team’s thread).

One of the FP’s signature deceptions is presenting politically motivated op-eds as fearless reporting. A legitimate news outlet would have assigned an actual reporter to look into the claims of the “whistleblower,” which would’ve turned up conflicting info pre-publication.

I went on State Senator Pat Fahy's podcast this week to talk political violence, hate, social media, etc.
On the off chance anyone is interested in my contribution to the "doing politics the right way" discourse, watch til the end.

The "AI" responses that Google gives about me and my work are consistently error-prone, which I know because I am me. If I know Google's "AI" responses give incorrect answers about things I know about, I can't trust it to give correct answers about things I don't know. So, no, I don't use it.

i will give the people running the post credit: by being extremely and almost defiantly obvious about what they're doing and why, they are saving the rest of us from the grueling work of interpretation.

So at the same time the Trump regime claims it's fighting antisemitism (which was always a lie) it's now saying it will deny citizenship (or visas?) to "globalists" which is mostly used in their crowd as a barely coded euphemism for "Jews"

As with social media algorithms, identity characteristics (race, religion, gender, etc) are deeply and inextricably embedded in how we interact with social or parasocial or faux social technologies.

I will never read a study that uses a “silicon sample.”
I will always talk shit about “researchers” who think using artificial data to supposedly mimic real data can provide any actual insight.

What is a reactionary centrist, and does the UK have them? A term favoured by US progressives can help us understand Britain’s drift to the right

It’s not just that this is puerile and lawless. It’s that it is completely out of touch with the issues relevant to contemporary warfare. Russia fights like this. It makes Russians criminals. But it doesn’t make them winners.

 I hope you found this
helpful. Thanks for writing.
It shows you care. You
should.

 Sincerely & respectfully,
Bill Young

P.S. The next time you’re in
Boston [the postmark on the card
is from the Philadelphia area]
stop in at the Courthouse and
watch your fellow citizens, sitting
as jurors, reach out for justice.
It is here, and in courthouses
just like this one, both state and
federal, spread throughout our land
that our Constitution is most vibrantly
alive, for it is well said that “Where a
jury sits, there burns the lamp of
liberty.”
