I’m sure. Terribly sad.
I’ve written about the strange history of exotic pets for the April issue of Tatler magazine.
Not sure I was hallucinating during #callthemidwife tonight but it seems that Pam Ferris/Sister Evangelina really did appear as a ghost and lead Sister Monica-Joan towards the pearly gates. Seems it is also possible to laugh & cry at the same time.
For once, I’m pleased about the Crufts best in show result. I loved the Petit Bassett Griffin Vendeen but also pleased that the handsome, chunky Clumber Spaniel, a rare native breed, got the top spot. Have only ever met a Clumber once myself (on Wanstead Flats but never bumped into him again).
I can’t stand it any more. I’ve caved and written to M&S customer service demanding answers to why they’ve changed from the magnificent Full on Flavour Roast Beef & Onion crisps to a bland & boring version, Beef & Onion. Life isn’t the same without these crisps in my life.
Latest vintage fancy dress photo purchase…(will I ever have enough to pitch a book?).
Just looks like a massive, cold, tedious, expensive faff to get to the top of a hill, spend a few seconds going down it, and unnecessarily risking death in the process.
It’s Kenneth Grahame’s birthday today & although Rackham & E.H. Shepard are the de facto illustrators of Wind in the Willows, I had to pull my 1980 childhood edition off the shelf as the illustrations by Michael Hague utterly enchanted me. Influenced by Rackham of course but they deserve a shout out
Oh dear. I don’t need & can’t afford this cute little Arts & Crafts wardrobe coming up for auction, but I jolly well want it.
Morning all.

Completely 100% agree with this. Have never, will never go skiing. Looks shit.
Binns in Darlington closed forever this weekend. Growing up, it was a a glamorous part of our frequent shopping trips to Darlington - a proper, smart, mid-sized department store for the town. Even though I no longer live in the NE I feel its demise acutely. It's in the foreground here, 1965.
Went to a vegetable-centred restaurant in an artisan denim factory in Walthamstow last night. Yes, I am one of those London twazzocks you read about. However, was brilliant & I think you all should go. It’s called Slowburn.
He was very old school in the loveliest way.
Ah, farewell lovely Neil Sedaka. Saw him at the Albert Hall in 2017 and he was still giving it his all at the age of 78. A catalogue of feel-good hits and a voice that never failed him.
A good day to post this.
One of the best takedowns of small-minded ignorance & slack-jawed bigotry.
Funny, too.

Always chuffed to get a letter from @oxfamgb.bsky.social telling me how much my recent donations have raised. Then there’s the stuff I also buy from the Blackheath branch which is about 50% of my wardrobe!
Oh no. Nightmare. Mend well soon.
Went to see this tonight at Sadler’s Wells. Great fun, especially for someone like me who likes opera but only has a rudimentary knowledge. All the hits, tremendous voices, mime, audience interaction with occasional lapses into pop tunes.
Have given up chocolate, cake and crisps for Lent - and biscuits (except flapjacks, which are in their own category). Resorting to this stuff for an afternoon sweet fix.
Absolute shocker of a rights grab - academics may want to push back hard
Watched Swear last night which was absolutely fantastic. Cried through most of it but ultimately it’s such an uplifting film. I have no first-hand experience of Tourette’s but what a challenge to cope with in life. Also, Robert Aramayo & Maxine Peake 👌
Well, well. One of my sisters still lives up there (in Newsham) so I get to go still. We lived at Dirt Pit, ne High Force & in Hall St, Barney when I was pre-school. Then parents moved to other bits of SW Durham before moving back in 1984. Sadly my mum died 22 yrs ago - she’s buried at Romaldkirk!
Oh my goodness. We lived in Mickleton. I went to Teesdale School but knew a lot of the Barney boys (this was late ‘80s though!).
#WutheringHeights Sweepcliff.
My 24 year-old son, who currently lives with us, bought a rice cooker for himself without consulting us. It now sits on our kitchen worktop taking up space (being ugly) and increasing the ‘reasons why he REALLY has to move out soon’. He does use it a lot though so I suppose that’s something.
More people should get married in February I think. There’s not much going for it as a month so nice to have an event that cuts through the gloom.
YES! I was at Liverpool Uni 89-90 and we spent most our grants in El Macho. Doubt it was that authentic but we loved it.
