I think the answer is not even in saying there is no god at all. Who the fuck knows how or why anything is happening. Just be present and decent to other people. Existential questions are existential because we will always be alone in the answer we tell ourselves.
Single player games should not, in fact, require an internet connection.
People are lonelier than ever, so here is a robot you can talk to. It won't make you less lonely but it will drive you insane. That will be five thousand dollars.
We're probably doomed to endless toxic feedback loops unless someone hits upon a brilliant fundamental redesign that manages to change social media's core dynamics.
Every time you buy a Harry Potter product, you are financing the dismantling of trans rights
Disabled people make able bodied people uncomfortable because we blatantly ask for help from others. We rely on community for support and care. Taking care of the most vulnerable is the revolution to a more connected society.
People with pre-existing conditions are not expendable.
The vulnerable are not expendable.
The elderly are not expendable.
Children are not expendable.
The disabled are not expendable.
If we planned around protecting the most vulnerable in society, we would all be better off.
how does one build community on bluesky i only knew violence on twitter :\
:( my worst fear ever. you're ok, it's ok! even if you did, we can't expect perfection and i know you just care about other people feeling safe β€οΈ

Non-binary includes people who are masc-presenting, folks. So don't be so fucking shocked when someone who could pass as a cis man turns up to your "women and non-binary" events.
Non-binary doesn't equal woman-lite.
I remember people arguing to cut certain romances, and then I looked at the telemetry and pointed out that more people played some of those romances, percentage-wise, than played a dwarven Inquisitor or a rogue, so if we were looking for cuts, they were welcome to start there.
At some point, I think you do need to put the data aside. You need to ignore what players *think* they want and imagine what they *really* do - that's your role as a dev, and it's a scary one... particularly since convincing higher-up publisher types of that is nigh impossible. π
I suppose I should add: while it might seem otherwise, I don't think one type is better than the other. Using data to drive decisions is good - relying solely on anecdotal data and gut to drive all decisions is a path to its own sort of madness - but relying solely on it leaves no place for vision.
Heh. As far as I'm concerned, there are two types of developers.
Type 1: "Only 30% of our players do a romance, so it should remain unimportant overall."
Type 2: "30% of our players do a romance *despite* it being unimportant, and those are our most ardent fans. What if we made it... better?"
π
Oh, that's not a mystery, tbh. There's room for nuance, but overall? Things that are seen as being popular among dudes and young boys? Fun and good. Things that are mostly seen as being popular among women? Cringe, and being popular among young girls is worse. Straight up.

I've been battling severe burnout for a few years now. And while I can get work done again, seeing how optimized every facet of the online space has become towards constant output feels extremely unhealthy in general.
