Number of volcanoes erupting each day from 1980-2024 from the Global Volcanism Program at volcano.si.edu which reaches 40-50 over the last 10 years

This is from AGU last year -- number of volcanoes erupting on each day from the GVP. The point I was making is that it was stable the approximate last 10 years, but there was a big jump around 2000 thanks to improved detections of eruptions from MODIS and other satellite sensors.

Can earthquakes trigger volcanic eruptions? Sometimes, yes. A few large regional earthquakes (greater than magnitude 6) are considered to be related to a subsequent eruption or to some type of unrest at a nearby volcano. However, volcanoes can ...

Others can give you more detailed info, but the initial reaction I've seen is "One of the most active volcanoes in the world erupts!"

This new exhibit at PRI's Museum of the Earth lives up to its name, with an amazing spread of modern and fossil specimens.

There was fantastic US science on display at #IAVCEI2025 as well, even though too many federal scientists had to stay home. My take-away was inspiration at what we can accomplish when we work together. New collaborations between US/international scientists were kindled. CERN as an exemplar.

Great, see you soon! Was able to make it to the end of the workshop in time to see Marco Bagnardi give the talk I was supposed to give yesterday and that he was going to originally give anyway... everything is great except the heat!

At JFK, planning to go tonight. So far I hear only Simon Carn is delayed so hopefully not worthy of a hashtag this time around!

Yup, while we boarded the co-pilot did a walk around and then the pilot tells us to do-board since there is a hole in the aircraft tire. Repair required the mechanic to drive up from JFK. Hopefully I'll arrive 24 hours later...
