Postdoctoral Positions
From the Caltech Division of Geological and Planetary Sciences
Hey planetary science PhD graduaters: I know thinking about applying to postdocs this year seems daunting, so I am here to remind you that we have some REALLY GOOD prize fellowship at Caltech. Come work with me. Or Katherine. Or Heather. Or Konstantin. Or someone. Seriously. These are good. ππͺ

The other problem is there is so much data that it isn't even all being served up. I've written to NASA to show how useful EarthDEM is, but as of yet, there is a huge amount processed that isn't released according to an AGU talk last year @polargeospatial.bsky.social

-The departments and faculty that participate. We can review applications from students who might never have thought to apply to our university. The timing of the ] deadline in late March serves as a second round of admissions to fill any gaps from students who declined in the first round.

-The graduate student participants who are able to apply to dozens of graduate programs with a single application. This is very efficient for both the students and the faculty as students don't have to write to dozens of faculty to see who might be accepting students in a given year.

Specifically, the AGU Bridge Program benefits:
-Graduate students outside the AGU Bridge program in the affiliated departments. The process of applying to the AGU Bridge Program promotes implementation of best practices in graduate admissions and mentoring.

Can creative ways be found to continue the Program? Only AGU is capable of coordinating multiple universities to run this program. This is the type of program that AGU should be leading to support our student members. It is also among the most impactful programs that AGU has.

I just sent the following message to the AGU Bridge listserv and some members of BoD and Council. I have received some encouraging response that after a year hiatus, the program can hopefully make a comeback. Short π§΅

The College Financial Health Show with Matt Hendricks & Gary Stocker for October 29, 2024
Unsustainable spending of endowments has been too common. This weekly show analyzes different school's finances (mostly small & private) using their $oftware -- 100 to date. Would be interested to know if they are accurate: Here is the episode with Ithaca College: www.youtube.com/watch?v=niLK...

Number of volcanoes erupting each day from 1980-2024 from the Global Volcanism Program at volcano.si.edu which reaches 40-50 over the last 10 years
This is from AGU last year -- number of volcanoes erupting on each day from the GVP. The point I was making is that it was stable the approximate last 10 years, but there was a big jump around 2000 thanks to improved detections of eruptions from MODIS and other satellite sensors.
