You will eventually get access to trainers for pretty much every skill and you can use those to level up your magic until you can swap into a magic class and skill up in fights. The first playthrough takes the longest, but if you decide you want to do the other routes, NG+ makes this much easier.

I'd really suggest playing RE4 Remake first. It's less intense than Requiem, very well made, and you get some time with Leon as a character when he was less jaded.
