Imagine the goodwill Britain can generate from the world if we would only loan some items back to countries of origin for display and study by locals. Imagine the contexts they would discover, new histories that could be written. Britain's image would change instantly and would be respected again.

This pitiful forelock-tugging across our society is getting worse, not better. Our newspapers these days invariably side with the rich against the poor, the strong against the weak. Iβve seen stories that are 100% accurate taken down from online because someone powerful has complained.
