Since I was a child, I was told that America is a Christian nation.

What makes a nation Christian?

You won't find your answer by reading the words printed on our money, listening to prayers offered at our national ceremonies, or reading the pseudo myths written by David Barton.

A budget is a moral document.

That is true for a nation, a corporation, a church, a family, or an individual.

If you want to know if I'm generous, don't take my word for it. Check my bank records. Read my tax return. Ask my accountant. If you want to know what I value most, check my budget.

Test passed. License in hand. Ready to hit the road.

Turning 16 on a Sunday is a bit disappointing. The good news is that all of the driver’s education and hours behind the wheel are complete. Tomorrow is Driving Test Day.

It was a great surprise to hang with family in St. Louis and catch a Cards-Cubs game!

They aren’t phrases that cause God to forget all that came before them in the speech.

More often than not, those phrases in the mouths of Dictators, Prime Ministers, Emperors, and Presidents are a direct violation of the 3rd Commandment, “You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.”

To be clear…the words “God bless America, God bless the Middle East, and God bless Israel” are not words you simply put at the end of a speech.

They aren’t a good luck charm.
They aren’t a magic spell.
They aren’t an incantation.
They aren’t a way to curry God’s favor.

Happy Juneteenth! We celebrate the announcement of the end of slavery in America as we work to continue the struggle for freedom and absolute equality.

Art invites us to see the world in new ways. But art doesn’t coerce us to see anything at all. It won’t bully us into its truth.

It’s possible to side with Javert’s “law and order” and miss Valjean’s grace and mercy.

The irony of our sitting President watching this story tonight at a Kennedy Center fundraiser while citizens around the country raise their voices on behalf of “les miserables” of our own day is stunning.

My favorite story in the world is Les Miserables. I’ve read Victor Hugo’s unabridged book, seen the Broadway musical many times, and several movie productions.

The Founders did everything they could to create every imaginable check and balance to prevent the destruction of our democratic political system.

In all their brilliance and foresight, they could not have foreseen this. #TrumpvElon

Under the false pretense of liberty and parental choice, without amendments to ensure a household income limit for eligible recipients, this bill will overwhelmingly provide a tax break to the wealthy and will hurt our public schools.

I am a product of private schools in California and Texas who has proudly chosen to send my own children to Texas public schools. I support a parent’s choice to send their children to private schools, but that choice should not be offered with public money.

Rather than representing the majority of Texans who oppose this bill, the majority of these House Members are instead loyally representing the interests of Governor Abbott and the Texas billionnaires who funded their campaigns.

But as I wait, I am outraged at what I am watching on the floor of the Texas House of Representatives as they debate and prepare to vote on SB 2, the Texas Voucher Bill, which would use public funds to pay for private education.
