Going to get in on the right wing pundit grift by starting a petition to introduce maximum height restrictions in Victoria Secrets. Change building codes so that any shop with a bra in it (scary) has a ceiling no higher then 5'5.

Also? It's okay to feel hopeless! It's inaction that kills. There's plenty of other fuel for action: Rage, spite, revenge, defiance, doing the right thing, being part of something bigger than ourselves, the joy of showing how creepy and weird the weird creeps are who are wrecking the planet, etc etc

So true, and unfortunately still a niche view in tech policy wonkery. So many people brought up on the ideology of continuous upwards progress of humanity are totally unable to respond properly to the fact that most new tech nowadays is produced with no regard to making people's lives better.

Trans people: hey you're making it unsafe for me to use any bathroom in my workplace workplace where we have no unisex toilets, and it would out me to follow your guidance anyway exposing me to further harassment and discrimination

EHRC: piss yourself freak

EHRC guidance will "not leave any trans person in a position where they are required to use facilities ... with which they do not identify."

Either a massive walkback of their ban, a deliberate lie, or they are just arguing that trans people always have the choice to piss themselves instead.

Previous panics around queer people being in gendered spaces, especially the moral panic about lesbians in women's spaces. Seeing that it was the same tropes and myths being deployed is important.

Don't have a proper source for it, but kept this on file as a neat window into some of this:

My first thought is to have a strand emphasising the shared history of gay and trans rights in the UK and US. Looking at trans people's role in early GLF work, the less defined boundaries that there were between sexuality and gender for a lot of people, and the echoes in the current panic of......

And if they ever get around to a conversion therapy ban (highly doubt it) - they'd better have a word with Streeting first about his gender clinics.....

A great piece, although it's really what they've done *to* us. The scale of the betrayal of New Labour's best legacy - the Eq Act 2010 - is unfathomable. They have not only removed those protections, but by codifying GC ideology they are making equalities law a direct tool of oppression.

New research publication! We've put together a five-year timeline of the descent of the EHRC from a equalities watchdog to campaigners for persecution. Read it here: transactual.org.uk/equality-act...

But when the question is whether to impose an unworkable and discriminatory ban on trans people from the spaces we've used for more than fifteen years, the EHRC have to be forced to extend their consultation from two weeks to six... Would the EHRC care to explain this hypocrisy?

Image of consultation response document reading: "Nor does the consultation address the possible need to consider a differentiated approach in relation to sexual orientation and being transgender so as to ensure, in particular, that clinicians and therapists are not prohibited from providing appropriate care and support for individuals with gender dysphoria. Given the documented lack of evidence about conversion therapy in relation to being transgender, recent attention and litigation on the implications of medical and surgical transition, and the ongoing NHS-commissioned independent review of gender identity services for children and young people led by Dr Hilary Cass OBE, we consider that these matters require further careful and detailed consideration before legislative proposals are finalised and the implications of them can be fully understood.
[With added highlight:] In light of the significant potential implications of the proposals for individuals, organisations and a number of pieces of current legislation, and their impact on a range of fundamental rights under the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) which cannot be properly considered in the absence of detailed legislative proposals, we were concerned that the original consultation period was limited to six, rather than the usual 12 weeks."

Going through some old EHRC papers, I notice that when they were arguing for leaving trans people out of the (ditched) conversion therapy ban, they went to great lengths to argue that the consultation on the ban should be 12 weeks instead of the 6 given by gov. What changed for them I wonder? 🙄

I really can't get over that the quotes describing the impact in this article are 1) what if you had BOGOF deals on carrots instead of cookies and 2) something completely unrelated to do with advertising.

Or target manufacturers, upstream of retail if your concern is the content and the advertising and the capitalist consumerism overlap with food systems. Really fail to see how re-organising the shelves again to put celery at your eyeline is a meaningful response to these problems.

This is the solution communities already use - through religious orgs or food banks or anarchist mutual aid setups operating out of squats. Non-judgemental provision of healthy and low carbon food should be the priority but policy has to shaped around "lifting people out of obesity" instead.

And I can't imagine anyone - but esp people with eating disorders - want to feel like their local shops are surveilling and judging what they buy because they will be fined if you grab an extra KitKat.

A better policy would be to fund communal kitchens that can provide free/cheap healthy food.

Calorie obsession is not only a factor in a lot of eating disorders, but also just doesn't have a lot to do with health. The combination of "obesity epidemic" language - which is unjustified and dehumanising - with nudge theory interventions (are we still doing that) reads as classic moralising.

Some stray observations, without knowing from this what the devilish detail will be, is that a) the bloodied and mendacious wes streeting seems to think that Tesco is in charge of Nestle's branding choices for some reason and b) the obsession with calorie counting is a very bad proxy for healthiness

Being, at this juncture, concerned about 'protecting the reputation of the court' is to decide that discriminating against trans people is more important than standing up for basic judicial norms. The court did this to their own reputation, all you are doing is tarnishing your own.

If I were an MP, I think I'd be really pissed at the supreme court for completely re-writing legislation and reversing it's clear and obvious intent. Massive overreach and anti-democratic powergrab that wouldn't be accepted in any situation other than doing it to fuck over trans people.

As suspected, it seems parliament do not take their new segregation policy at all seriously, almost like they know that trans people aren't an inherent risk and that this policy is discriminatory, unlawful, and unenforceable!

26.06.2025 10:12 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

MP's writing to us about how it's 'good news' amidst dark times is insulting - the same bill is criminalising our protest rights at the time we most need them. They wont do anything that can't be spun as some kind of crackdown, and they shouldn't get a single half-hearted clap from us.

24.06.2025 08:47 — 👍 19    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

I'm not celebrating the upgrading of anti-LGBT hate crime laws. Nobody asked for this, it doesn't make us safer, and the bill is an absolute horrorshow offensive to civil liberties. And now it's used to fob us off and try and placate us while they strip our rights. Not buying it.
