So I got a really nice PM in Soundcloud today, praising my music. For a moment I felt really good, until I realised I was logged onto my work account, which is a podcast channel with no music. #spam

The thing I love about Nina Simone is that she will sing until within an inch of losing control, her voice occasionally cracks and she veers off pitch, but I believe every. single. word. she sings. Unlike, say, Ella Fitzgerald, who is always in complete control. Perfect, but never interests me much.
I have a vivid memory from watching Shrek on the premiere, and groaning when Hallelujah came on. Had the song already been used in TV series at that point, or did that come later? You couldn't throw a rock and not hit that song for a few years there.

Any love for one of the best ambient movie soundtracks of all time? I spent so much time listening to Cliff Martinez' excellent score - perfect blend of electronic and acoustic instruments, and hypnotic like you won't believe.

Thank you so much! No guitar in this, I don't even own an ebow. :P I tinkered around with a rhodes-like preset one day, which became the starting point. After that, it was just a matter of choosing textures and layer them around the rhodes, much like a sculptor would add layers to a skeleton.

Unlike many others here, I am not a band, nor is this a "song"... but I've been wanting to write long-but-interesting, changing, atmospheric ambient music for as long as I remember, and on this track, I kinda... did it.
