If anything like the rule of law were in force, Trump couldn't arbitrarily increase a tariff because he is annoyed.

Article excerpt with a section of the second paragraph highlighted: State social studies standards for years have included discussion of how white Tulsans murdered as many as 300 Black people. But once the 2021 state law that restricted teaching about race and gender passed, some teachers avoided the topic. The law prohibits teachers from singling out specific racial groups as responsible for past racism. It specifies that individuals of a certain race shouldn’t be portrayed as inherently racist, “whether consciously or unconsciously.” In addition to teachers’ licensure being on the line, repeated failure to comply would allow the state to revoke district accreditation, which could result in a state takeover. When educators questioned how to teach about a race massacre without running afoul of the law, state legislators and the Tulsa County chapter of the conservative parent group Moms for Liberty weighed in to say that white people today shouldn’t feel shame and that the massacre’s perpetrators shouldn’t be cast as racists. A Moms for Liberty chapter representative did not respond to questions from ProPublica.

Changes to Oklahoma’s curriculum rules make it so teachers aren’t supposed to tell students that the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921 — a defining incident of racial violence in Oklahoma history — was perpetrated by racists.

I am kind of astonished at how muted the reaction has been so far in a country were people try to get, like, gas stations declared as historic landmarks. Can we at least get Mike Johnson on camera claiming he hasn’t seen these pictures? Or doesn’t know where or what the White House is?

This is a great piece.

So the U.S. military murdered these people on orderes from the White House or DoD. Will there be any consequences or even an investigation? I’m guessing there will not. If a foreign power murders Americans under similar circumstances, what right will we have to object?

Where we stand, in long arc of history:

-Story on left, adding race as a factor when that favors white people.

-Story on right, banning race as a factor when that favors non-whites.

I often complain about NYT headlines and story-play. But these are strong. Including "If Court Guts 1965 Law."

There are people at the NYT who know better than this. Lots of them.

Some of them should check the headlines, sub-heds, and "social sells."

This paper does not show that AI improves or undercuts academic scholarship. It shows that people who use AI publish more articles in better-cited journals. Are these articles “improved”? Dunno. Maybe they’re just fooling reviewers with realistically faked data or AI-generated sophistry.

No, he cannot.

Now, it will barely even be reported, let alone called out.
