We are excited to share our new preprint which is now available to read on biorXiv: doi.org/10.64898/202... 🎉🎉🎉
Congrats 👏 Max!
Are you excited to uncover the molecular mechanisms of actin filament assemblies that drive cell migration using cryo-EM?
Only 1.5 week to apply for this exciting PhD position in my newly established lab at the Netherlands Cancer Institute in Amsterdam: www.werkenbijavl.nl/vacatures/ph...
Our colleagues Vinith Kishore and Valentin Debarnot from the @ivandokmanic.bsky.social lab have come up with an amazing deep learning tool for denoising and filling the missing wedge in #cryoET data. I'm pleased to introduce Icecream🍧
Hey #TeamTomo …would you like to try some 🍦ICECREAM!? Our @unibas.ch colleagues over at the @ivandokmanic.bsky.social lab have developed a stunningly effective tool to de-noise and de-wedge your tomograms. The contrast and details will give you brain freeze! 🍨❄️🤯
Please try, we need feedback 🧪🧶🧬🔬
✨Excited that the main project of my PhD is now available as a pre-print on #bioRxiv
Here, we used #CryoET to visualise mitochondrial proteostatic stress and together with SPA #CryoEM shed light into the functional cycle of the Hsp60:10 chaperone system. #TeamTomo

Biochemical reconstitution of sister chromatid cohesion establishment during DNA replication
Out today in @nature.com: Together with the Honigmann, Shevchenko, Drobot and Hof labs, we present a general workflow for imaging the localization and transport of individual lipids in cells and mapping their metabolism.

First pre-print from the Lucas Lab led by Matthew Giammar and @joshdcryoem.bsky.social online today! We develop a new, extensible Python implementation of 2DTM and apply it to build pixel size optimization, constrained search and characterize molecular motions in situ www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
A tribute to George Sheldrick and SHELX and the impact on macromolecular and small-molecule crystallography

Interactions with multiple inner #kinetochore proteins determine mitotic localization of FACT, say Julia Schweighofer, Bhagyashree Mulay, Andrea Musacchio (@andrea-musacchio.bsky.social) and colleagues: rupress.org/jcb/article/...
#Mitosis
Congrats Ben and colleagues!!Fantastic work 👏 🙌
Great job Florent and colleagues!Congrats 👏
For #teamtomo, context is everything.
We highlight the power of #surfacemorphometrics in guiding STA and quantitatively assessing the impact of these structures on the local environment.
1st collab paper w/ @zidlab.bsky.social (hopefully many more to come!)
@tomo.science @hamid13r.bsky.social
Happy to share that the final version of record for our (
@nanigrotjahn.bsky.social) #teamtomo mitochondrial cotranslation story is online at @jcb.org! We combined STA with surface morphometrics to learn how ribosomes bind to and alter mitochondrial membranes in yeast.

Still hard to believe but Béla Novák died suddenly on Saturday.
We've lost a fantastic colleague, mentor & great friend to many. There was really no-one else like him. Working with him was so much fun & I owe him a lot. All my thoughts are with his family.

Today Jan Drenth would have been 100 years, but sadly he passed away last week.
He was the founding father of structural biology in the Netherlands and his modesty, his gentle humor and his generosity set the spirit for the amazing environment in Groningen where i did my PhD.
After a long journey, Segment Anything for Microscopy is now published in Nature Methods! We significantly improve SAM for interactive and automatic segmentation in light and electron microscopy and build a user-friendly tool.

Retraction of a paper from the lab of a Stanford Nobel Prize winner.
The PI dismissed our combined concerns as 'micro-duplications that are typical image processing artifacts'.
But after consulting with an 'image analysis expert', the authors retracted the paper.

Fantastic news Sven!Wishing you a success in your new journey 👏
We will soon welcome @svenklumpe.bsky.social to the Vienna BioCenter, where he will use cryo-Electron Tomography to study - among other things - how #transposons shape #germlines. Sven's lab will be @imbavienna.bsky.social *AND* the IMP.

In a great collaboration with @hummerlab.bsky.social and the Kräusslich lab: HIV capsid doesn't break at the NPC; instead, it cracks open the NPC itself! Details in Cell: authors.elsevier.com/sd/article/S... @mpibp.bsky.social @uniheidelberg.bsky.social A thread below:
Double whammy: Wellcome Centres are no more & MRC Units are on their last funding cycle. Huge blow to science in cities other than Cambridge-Oxford-London which continue to have well-funded institutes with excellent infrastructure (Crick, LMB etc). The rest of us…?

Congratulations!!
SPACEtomo v1.2 is online! github.com/eisfabian/SP...
- Improved GUIs for lamella detection, target selection and CLEM registration make it the best target selection workflow for PACEtomo on any kind of lamella sample.
- Easier installation and configuration
Any feedback is much appreciated! :)
