It's been a while! But I’m back with some massive 🧪 news: 15 papers on the Cabrières Biota have been accepted in Lethaia.
They show the incredible complexity of life 470 million years ago (e.g., sponges, algae, worms🪱, arthropods🦐) and will be rolling out soon!

I became Senior VP at a multi-million dollar company at age 26. My salary was $600k. This was in 2018.
How did I do it?
Blacked out lines
CEO (my dad) promoted me to SVP.
There are no gimmicks. There are no shortcuts.
This is blackout poetry to me

Result from the Djadochta Formation #paleostream! This iconic place gave me a fantastic challenge, not just in terms of environment but also because besides the dinosaur the really cool stuff from here is actually rather small. I ended up with a rather unusual composition...

a pregnant Mixosaurus catches a single belemnoid out of a small school, the cephalopods squirt out clouds of ink in an attempt to confuse the ichthyosaur as they dart away. the Mixosaurus has many scars from previous encounters with other animals, and two circular scars made from lamprey bites
Mixosaurus is a kind of ichthyosaur (marine reptiles that looked like sharks and dolphins) that was integral to our understanding of ichthyosaur evolution as it preserves a dorsal fin, this is important as its anatomy bridges the gap between more elongated ichthyosaurs and more compact dolphin-like forms
belemnoids are relatives of modern cephalopods that looked like squid but had bony phragmacones that helped with buoyancy and to keep the structure of their body
a bilateral gynandromorph Tetrameryx dashes away at top speed in an attempt to escape something off-screen. the left side of the animal has speculative female horns while the right side of the animal has large male horns that Tetrameryx was named after
Tetrameryx is a kind of extinct pronghorn which had two incredibly long prongs on its head, though these prongs had no branching, this morphology matches extant pronghorn prongs, where the inner cores are a singular straight line and the keratin sheath on top has two prongs that curve inwards. given this trait it's most parsimonious to assume that Tetrameryx also had a similar morphology as i have reconstructed here
my sona (i am 5' 4") holds a Hyperodapedon infront of an orange background with lighter halftones
Hyperodapedon is part of an often forgotten about lineage of reptiles very distantly related to crocodiles and birds which possessed very wide heads and very unique oral anatomy (though in this image ive obscured the mouth for sake of my own sanity) it appeared something like a tegu with the head of a giant mole rat with a beak reminiscent of softshell turtles
here's the results of this week's #Paleostream flocking!
this week we sketched Platycerabos (check the replies), Mixosaurus, Tetrameryx, and Hyperodapedon

a Tapejara opens its mouth to yawn as the dawn's light bathes it in a gentle warm hue. the setting moon appears to be in its beak due to the framing of the shot. the sky behind the pterosaur is a deep clear blue as the night retreats from the day
Tapejara is a kind of tapejarid pterosaur (pterosaurs with large fleshy crests from the front of their face to the back oftentimes paired with smaller ones on the bottom of their beaks) that inhabited Cretaceous Brazil, here ive depicted it with a healed injury on its crest at the back
an angry Ajkaceratops charges towards the camera while a shocked seated person (my sona) recoils in fear (i am 5' 4" (~163cm) tall)
Ajkaceratops is a genus of ceratopsian dinosaur (relatives of Triceratops) known only from skull material, unlike it's better known relatives it may or may not have had a frill proper and also lacks a distinct rostral bone which is a characteristic of virtually all ceratopsians
a male Hoplitomeryx is seated amongst some short grass at the edge of a game trail, the morning sun carpets the foreground and midground of the shot in a bright yellow light while the heavily foliaged background remains in relative cool darkness. the small ungulate has swivelled its neck around to look at the camera
Hoplitomeryx is a kind of small deer-like ungulate that had five large horns on its head; two behind each of its eyes and one between its eyes on the middle of its head. they also possessed small fangs much like fanged-deer as well as scent glands infront of the eyes like most ruminants. they lived in Italy during a time in Earth's history where the sea levels covered most lowlying areas, forming islands that are now attached to the mainland in the modern day
a Protoceratops kicks up fine sandy dust as it walks towards the camera, it's illuminated from the back by a bright yellow light as this shot is set at night
Protoceratops is one of the most well known ceratopsians dinosaurs behind Triceratops due to being one of the two species in the 'Dueling Dinosaurs' fossil where a Velociraptor and Protoceratops were preserved mid fight by a falling dune. Protoceratops lacked any horns, but had a very wide and broad crest, as well as a raised "sail" on the top of its tail
