i just think hating on contemporary art is a really basic take; contemporary art is super interesting to analyze and a lot of people who criticize it unnecessarily just don't understand it or haven't taken an art class before

don't get me wrong, realism is cool and takes a lot of skill and patience, but there are so many other ways of using the mediums available to you. realism should not be the only valuable art form, and sometimes realism doesn't properly express the emotions an artist is going for with their piece

this might be a controversial opinion but contemporary art is cool actually. there's something really meaningful about abstract or seemingly pointless art and the kind of responses it generates, and people who complain about modern art tend to focus way too hard on realism
