I think of all the people we've lost in those intervening years. Of the lives we might have had. But instead, pwME were painted as crazy people who were mean to researchers (who kept using the tiny research budgets to prove we were crazy, or to falsify data which caused unimaginable harm).

Our government, a quarter of a century ago, said the lack of research into ME was unacceptable and promised things would change.

For three years, I was in the Severe category - mostly bedbound, needed to use a wheelchair on the rare occasions I did go out, needed full time care. At that point, there had already been scandals where money tagged for research into ME had been used to top up other people's studies.
