Adapting Pynchon for the cinema is not without its challenges. I thought Anderson's Inherent Vice deserved better than the FT's faint praise.

This is insightful. Models and theories are most useful at the points where they lose explanatory coherence: the anomaly/irregularity is where the gold (leverage) is. cf. in the financial sphere: arbitrage, unpriced externalities, etc.
