My favorite thing about AI book club scams is that LLMs ate the entire internet's worth of text but never once told their users, "Hey, authors have no money."

Palantir CEO Makes Shocking Confession on Disrupting Democratic Power They’re saying the quiet part out loud now.

"Palantir CEO Alex Karp says his AI technology will lessen the power of “highly educated, often female voters, who vote mostly Democrat” while increasing the power of working-class men."

Just saying it right out loud now.

Grammarly Is Facing a Class Action Lawsuit Over Its AI ‘Expert Review’ Feature The feature, which Grammarly shut down Wednesday, presented editing suggestions as if they came from established authors and academics—without their consent.

I'm suing Grammarly over its paid AI feature that presented editing suggestions as if they came from me - and many other writers and journalists - without consent.

State law requires consent before someone's name can be used for commercial purposes.

The cover for Uncanny Magazine Issue 62, “Mermay - Golden Hour" by Maxine Vee: In a forest of brown, orange, and golden leaves, a mermaid with orange/gold hair sits on a rock in a small light blue pond. She stares at her open palms, illuminated by a beam of sunlight. Purple flowers in shade lie scattered on the ground in the foreground. The quote reads: "The form is one page long. No back. Just a front. It should be longer. There are six copies of the form, all different colors. Like I’m working my way through the rainbow to the end where I’ll finally find peace. Red. A parent or guardian. I meet my mother for lunch at the little bistro down the street."

Rumi (to warmongers):

What kind of lightning are you, setting farms on fire?
What kind of cloud are you, raining down stones?

What kind of hunter?
Caught in your own trap—
a thief stealing from your own house.

I'm aware @officialgrammarly.bsky.social has said people can opt out of this, THAT IS ALSO ENRAGING. LLMs have already coopted and stole and plundered creative people's work, now we also have to contact YOU after you steal our identities? Fuck all the way off with that! It's MORE THEFT YOU CLOWNS

So, this isn't just a state or federal privacy law issue and Grammarly has good enough lawyers to know that. This is also a state privacy tort issue and they're banking on the fact that no one will sue them for unauthorized use of their name.

California has very strong laws on this bc Hollywood.

halve that, halve it again, and then deal it out over 3-4 payments

Basically, take the amount of money you think your favorite author gets, halve it, and then halve it again, and you have a number that's probably a lot closer to their actual earnings from writing.

"But I don't think they make that much!"

Halve that. Halve it again.

Strongly suspect that as this war and its negative effects escalate, we're gonna see a massive increase in disinfo and unsourced "news" - starting right the hell now.

PLEASE don't share "breaking" news from rando or disreputable accounts who provide no links.
