One reason I subscribe to @latimes.com is @uclaathletics.bsky.social coverage. Now Bruin reporter Ben Bolch (and others) went to the California Post (a California version of Murdoch's right-wing New York Post). Bruin coverage is now AP copy with no insight into the program. Do better, LA Times.

Snowstorms are hell for wheelchair users—but they don't have to be "You can't physically move. You can't do anything."

The failure of even some of the best-resourced cities to adequately clear snow so that disabled people with mobility devices can safely get around is both an infrastructure failure and a policy choice, leaving those people stuck in one area and stripping them of their autonomy.

Do bike lanes really cause more traffic congestion? Here's what the research says | CBC News While many people, including Ontario's Premier Doug Ford, say that bike lanes increase traffic congestion, research from around the world shows that's not the case.

California quietly kills e-bike voucher program, funnels funds into cars instead California’s ambitious statewide electric bicycle incentive program is officially dead – and it didn’t even get a funeral. After years...

Overwhelming demand for people wanting not to be stuck driving - but the Air Resources Board kills the program in favor of cars that still pollute our air.

A new bike-lane sweeper, with a set of googly eyes, debuts on Hollywood Boulevard East Hollywood — Hollywood Boulevard has a new street sweeper, just for the bike lanes.

A different kind of training ride: "Doing the pedaling will be Kayla Hankins, a recent UCLA graduate who is training to qualify for the 2028 Olympics in the track sprint cycling event."

If Mike Johnson is refusing to call the House back into session during the shutdown, then we’ll do the work right here the Bronx.

The New York Essential plan is being eliminated entirely next year due to the GOP healthcare cuts. People’s lives are at stake.

And that’s why we’re fighting back.

Triptych image. Left: a teacher points to a chalkboard that says “1492 Columbus Discovers America.” Middle: aerial view of a Mississippian mound surrounded by village huts and forest. Right: modern Indigenous woman in beige shirt, smiling gently. Text reads: “Our teachers taught us what they were given,” “But what if they were only handed part of the story?” and “Columbus shouldn’t be a blindfold — he should be a bridge.”

Columbus shouldn’t be a blindfold — he should be a bridge.
Indigenous civilizations built cities, calendars, and cultures long before 1492.
Reevaluation isn’t betrayal. It’s connection.

I sometimes feel like I'm punching down to make that point, but acknowledgements strike me as myopic. And empty words.

Contributor: How many kids must die before L.A. makes streets safer? After 14 years of meetings and plans, the city failed to upgrade a dangerous Koreatown intersection with enhanced crosswalks and other improvements. Now a 9-year-old boy is dead.

The crash that killed nine year old Nadir Gavarrete two weeks ago in Koreatown was entirely preventable. The city has a plan and has been working to implement it for *14 years*

La Ballona Township – Cheviot Hills History

I grew up near Townships, like Michigan’s Bloomfield Township. LA had townships, too. Midwestern 6x6 mile townships came from the federal Land Ordinance of 1785. California's were created at the county level, like LA County's La Ballona Township. www.cheviothillshistory.org/home/miscell...

Remember Barnes City in West LA? Probably not — it left town with the circus Barnes City was created 100 years ago. And then it disappeared, one of L.A.'s shortest-lived municipalities. What happened to it?

One of my favorite old-Westside stories.

GM’s Gas Station-Like DC Fast Chargers Are Now In Over 25 States GM Energy partnered with Pilot Company and EVgo to install thousands of 350 kW DC fast chargers on major travel corridors in the U.S.

About time! I've driven an EV across country several times. Most places have nothing we're used to at gas stations. No shade, nothing to clean the windows, no trash cans. It's like they forget we're driving cars - plus were stuck there longer!

🔥Rep. Deluzio isn’t buying VA Secretary Doug Collins’ BS.

How do you deliver care while cutting 80,000 staff? You don’t.

This is a blatant push to privatize the VA—costing more, with less oversight, and screwing Veterans out of the specialized care they earned.

Tesla Cybertruck Banned And Seized By Police In The U.K. The Cybertruck has a cult following in the U.S., but safety issues such as excessive size and acceleration and sharp edges make the Tesla illegal on U.K. roads.

Some of the safety issues.

“concerns exist around the safety of other road users or pedestrians if they were involved in a collision with the Cybertruck.”

"sharp edges make the car a pedestrian hazard"
