Oh no I just got choked up thinking about how wonderful it is for a kid who is fresh to being out in the world on their own to know that they can come home and their dad will be waiting to pick them up, no matter the hour.
There is something about not sleeping that knocks my Perspective Meter all askew. My ability to gauge how I am supposed to feel about things is diminished and it starts a spiral that sounds similar to your experience. And the way out of it is to get some sleep, but alas.

I went for a walk this morning, on basically the same neighborhood route I've been walking for a decade and this spring, there are daffodils blooming by the sidewalk. It's the side of the street without houses, so that means someone probably just planted them so they could see them on their walk.
