Have you read Victorian Psycho by Virginia Feito? No creatures per se, but very much the vibe you're describing. It takes a lot to make me hold back a book I'm reading and say, 'holy shit!' but that one did it to me every other page.
Home repairs and headaches got between me and accomplishing much as a writer or editor today. But then I see a truly fantastic debut novel I edited earlier this year, The 12th of Never by Oje Kendi, released today, and that helps a lot. If you love Stranger Things, this might hit the spot.

Exactly. And this is a classic example of not having to dance with the first one who asks. As with any other issue, there will be a publisher who will respect your reasonable boundary, even if the first one won't. Trust your judgment; trust your book.
