NEH's budget is tiny—not just compared to NSF/NIH, but compared to humanities funding in every other wealthy nation. What little was there was largely rescinded and several programs were cut in full last year. It decimated not merely individual projects but whole corners of the humanities in the US.

Sitting here in a cafe in Newtown where I lived a long time ago under very different circumstances, after 10 years in the US and returning home as an associate professor, is making me realise how far I’ve come and how grateful I am. Maybe it is time to write that memoir 😬

Well that was fun, have a guest lecture in @hanspols.bsky.social class today and tonight talking at the @anzshm.bsky.social NSW branch AGM! Hanging around my old stomping ground Newtown in between.

Well I just received an invite to be a keynote at this years Australian College of Mental Health nurses conference, because of my work in the history of mental health. It's nice to be valued for your historical work instead of maligned for it, for a change.

Went shopping in Sydney today and bought some books at my favourite store. Catching up on all the great Aussie writers I couldn’t get in the US.

German soccer team cancels Minnesota visit due to ICE crackdown Bundesliga side Werder Bremen were planning to visit in May, though no matches were scheduled.

This is what needs to happen.

Cancel the World Cup.

Cancel the Olympics.

Cancel your US vacations.

Refuse to support this regime and refuse to endanger lives.
