For the first time, we now know how many Black-owned bookstores exist in the U.S. The National Association of Black Bookstores has released the “first comprehensive national report” on the state of America’s Black-owned bookstores.

There has never been an official, comprehensive record of Black-owned bookstores across the United States — until now

March Sadness 90s Edition A yearly March Madness-style tournament of essays about songs we love (and occasionally loathe)

"While hardcore, punk, & various combinations of the two targeted the sources of its listeners’ despair—politics, bigotry, societal conformity, etc. —, emo zeroed in on the despair itself." Brittany Uecker's perceptive @marchxness.bsky.social essay on Mineral:

Hmm, let me recall what happens when patients living with HIV don't get their meds...oh yeah, they die. Not instantly of course, but eventually the immune system fails and almost all patients die (about 0.2-0.5% are able to control HIV without meds)

Even if treatment resumes, damage is done 😳

It's stupid expensive and filled with a hazelnut goo & chunks of hazelnut. It's fancy Nutella candy bars for like $20 a bar.

Most Reform UK members believe non-white British citizens should be forced or encouraged to leave, poll finds Nigel Farage’s attempts to appeal to centre-ground voters may cause tension in his party, according to Hope Not Hate

Farage never courted the centre ground, the centre ground moved to the far right

Being surprised that these are the views of his supporters is hopelessly naive at best considering it's what he's been pushing all along...

screenshot of legal document filed by Trump's FDA with two sections highlighted in yellow, denoted by double asterisks:
Approval Suspension. The provision of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act that specifies the circumstances in which a drug application can be withdrawn, 21 U.S.C. § 355(e), includes authority to suspend an application prior to its withdrawal. In particular, **if the Secretary of Health and Human Services 1 [refers to footnote 1] finds that a drug presents “an imminent hazard to the public health,” he may suspend the approval of the application (including a supplemental application) “immediately.”** 21 U.S.C. § 355(e). The Secretary then must “give the applicant [aka the drug manufacturer] prompt notice of his action and afford the applicant the opportunity for an expedited hearing” on whether to withdraw approval. Id. Approval may be withdrawn if, among other things, “new evidence of clinical
experience . . . evaluated together with the evidence available to [FDA] when the application was approved, shows that such drug is not shown to be safe for use under the conditions of use upon the basis of which the application was approved.” Id. § 355(e)(2).
Apart from the Secretary’s suspension authority, there are no “interim orders” FDA could issue. However, FDA possesses authority to require a sponsor to propose changes to a drug’s conditions of use, including by adding or modifying a REMS requirement related to prescribing or dispensing. The timing of implementation is...
Footnote 1: Although the Commissioner of Food and Drugs generally “execut[es]” the Secretary’s authorities under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, 21 U.S.C. § 393(d)(2), **“the authority . . . to suspend approval of an application”—as distinct from withdrawal of approval—“shall not be delegated” and remains with the Secretary**, id § 355(e) (emphasis added)

NEW: The FDA just outlined the ways it could restrict the abortion drug mifepristone during its horseshit "safety" review. The first? RFK Jr. has the power to immediately suspend the approval of drugs that he deems “an imminent hazard to the public health”

A folk logic about it is starting to develop. People may not understand the monopolies and geopolitics of renewable energy at a gradual level. But they can see data centers, hear data centers, and read their electric bill statements. They are angry.

Kurds see opening yet remain wary as Trump seeks help to oust Iran regime As the US and Israel escalate strikes on Iran, Trump has opened talks with Iraqi Kurdish leaders about their potential involvement in the conflict.

Amberin Zaman, who has excellent Kurdish sources, says the Iranian Kurds want Trump to – stop me if you've heard this before – "establish a no-fly zone over the Kurdish areas to provide air cover for potential future operations and, above all, to prove its commitment."

American Jews have been TRYING to tell folks that yes, AIPAC is evil, & fuck them, but Christian Zionists in the US outnumber Jews IN THE WORLD & have risen to power in all areas of our government, & they want to bring the End Times (& kill all the Jews btw), AND THIS IS WHAT WE WERE TALKING ABOUT.

Ask yourself: does corporate media portray that accurately?

And then there are the people who answer what they think other people think just to have their answer be in the biggest group that must therefore represent the right choice even if they don't believe it's the right solution.
