So glad I appointed former UCP-candidate, Shawn McLeod, to act as Alberta's ethics commissioner so this probe will be over quickly and our pattern of giving our friends sole-source contracts can continue.

A social media post by Edmonton Paramedics. (Part 1) Earlier today, it was quietly announced that several members of senior EMS management for both the province and city of Edmonton were fired. This is the second round of mass senior management terminations with the previous one being in November 2024. Let's be clear, the EMS system in Alberta is currently a disaster. Very little has improved since Danielle Smith promised to fix healthcare in 90 days. Every week, more paramedics are injured or quit the profession. Emergency Departments continue to overflow with patients while hospitals burst at the seams with sick and injured Albertans. Ambulances struggle to keep up with an ever increasing volume of 911 calls while our dispatchers triage those calls to decide which emergency gets one of the few remaining ambulances on the road. Healthcare workers, including paramedics, have been pleading for increased funding and resources to expand capacity. We are also asking for a fair contract to attract and retain skilled healthcare workers in this province. Meanwhile, our healthcare system has been shattered like glass under the guise of "reorganizing". Decisions appear to be getting made on the fly and no on understands what direction we are headed. Paramedics don't even know what organization they work for anymore. When we ask our "leaders" (and we use that term loosely, bordering on slander) what is happening, they tell us that they don't know.

Paramedics are suffering everyday trying to provide emergency care to our patients while our requests for assistance are ignored. The government will tell you that everything is fine and things are getting better. This is a lie. The only change that is happening is change to destroy the integrity of a system that is meant to provide care to Albertans during their most vulnerable moments of need. Albertans deserve better. Edmonton paramedics want the public to know that we are angry and frustrated with the current state of affairs. We have no leadership, no organization, no plan, no ambulances, no manpower and no contract. Yet according to the government, our biggest issue is that we have no logo. Our message to the government is to stop this senseless and destructive reorganization of healthcare and actually listen to healthcare workers to properly invest in expanding healthcare capacity in this province to properly serve Albertans.
This is exactly what a refocused healthcare system looks like in my Alberta. When things aren't going the way the UCP wants, we fire the entire board. Just like we did with not one, but two AHS boards!
