the lcb-homestuck comparisons are annoying, especially when pjm was playing with meta narratives before lcb, but lcb is falling into the same pitfalls as homestuck where the writers are getting too up their own asses

based on how during the last day of a teaching week the number of times a subject is taught is counted and the exam is tested by subject i think scores are calculated based on the associated stat + number of times its taught. i ignored geometry (幾何) which ended up being sora's worst subject

finally got to the first exam. sora is tested against his brother, luna, and whoever has the highest score wins. sora won this exam

tbh i felt fulfilled when i finally unlocked the new subject, medicine. got a bit frustrated wondering when i would get a book since the game is very barebones with no character affection meters, etc but since things go fast the frustration from groping around blindly didn't last long

for the first subject i unlocked i had to talk to the palace maid and knight to learn books are rare goods since most of the country is illiterate > talk to the priest and progress his story a bit > finally trigger an event where the priest tries to burn a book on human dissection

so the blank spots next to the basic subjects you can teach sora (the prince) can be filled with new subjects. the process to gain new subjects is very roundabout. in general, story progression comes from randomly going places until you trigger an event. wash, rinse, repeat.
