Casey's thread is excellent, and speaks to a much wider point I've been hesitant to articulate recently: That trans people are expected to quietly endure as non-issues things that would be considered deeply traumatic for cis people.

Not just the sexual harassment or assault, but everyday things...

I know I'll be playing fighting games with my friends that night instead of going. I was about to check out Evo Nice next month while I'm there, but that's not happening.

But while they have succeeded in buying esports, they'll never buy the FGC.

That's what soft power is. Being there in any capacity contributes to that goal. If anything they are happier that people they don't agree with are there, because it further legitimizes spaces they already own and creates positive associations they never could otherwise.

The goal of the PIF is not to influence us, it's to influence generations that are only now growing up or haven't even been born yet. It's to give those people a positive view of Saudi Arabia, so the first thing you think of is Evo or esports or golf or anything except for human Rights violations.

Looks like I'm not doing a video about it for a while so my take on the Evo news is that it means nothing to go and be loud and proud, that's what they want. It's about soft power. By being there we legitimize the regime. I won't judge anyone, but as a queer woman I refuse to enable or legitimize.

For a long time I felt that the FGC was doing a good job of incorporating esports in our own way without losing too much of ourselves. But in more recent years, well, you see the news today. A major chunk of FGC esports has in significant ways become something else for someone else
