Those are outstanding! The herald has a delightfully decrepit look and the troll feels like it’s right on the line between goofy and serious.

They look nice. Well, maybe not nice. More like disgusting, but in a good way. And really good for just 23 minutes per figure.

Curious about your technique. Are you using a rail or just very carefully adjusting the focus for each shot? Either seems to be challenging for field shots.

Are you familiar with her greater body of work? It includes vigorous defenses of Joe Paterno and Lance Armstrong in columns for the Washington Post. I wouldn’t want to jump to any conclusions, but I think there just might be a pattern here.

And I had the same reaction that you did. It was the first time I laughed since the morning of 9/11 and it was such a release.

I remember the “Holy Fucking Shit” banner headline too. My guess is that the website had that as the main headline but it was reduced to an infographic for the print issue. But I can’t find any record of it either.

I ended up going down the rabbit hole with the plants. Some are scavenged plastic plants from an old aquarium and others bought on sale from Michaels. There are some plants from my yard and others crafted out of green stuff. The monster himself falls into that last category.

Here’s the entire diorama. It started as an attempt to improve my technique in blending and highlighting skin tones. Once I finished the orc figure, I thought it would look nice set in a tropical rain forest diorama, with the orc as a hunter.
