Tales from the Trenches: Academic Labor Organizing in Troubled Times

This year the labor caucus panel is also secretly a second queer caucus panel, featuring dual-carding caucus members Kathleen Dillon and Bethany Hellwig

I'd also be interested in putting together a panel on anarchist pedagogies. My practice of Slow Resistance draws on slow pedagogy and anarchist pedagogies.

Is anyone planning to attend #4C26 interested in putting together a panel on how we can practice a Slow Pedagogy in the neoliberal/late-stage capitalist academy?

“This was a purposeful decision by ICE to make me, Mahmoud, and our son suffer. My son and I should not be navigating his first days on earth without Mahmoud. ICE/the Trump admin have stolen these precious moments from our family in an attempt to silence Mahmoud’s support for Palestinian freedom.”

I brought a cassette of Linda Ronstadt singing love ballads, and CD of Aretha Franklin's Greatest hits thru the 80s. I also brought my watercolor set. :)

It’s starting to happen. I got called sir at the airport (followed by a “I’m sorry — ma’am???”). Some might be put off by this, but I’m over here feeling very affirmed!

I have a fractured finger, so this work is going very slow indeed.

My long-distance fiance and I are listening to a shared playlist on Discord together of songs that remind us of each other, and this is indeed a great way to spend a Friday night. It would be better if we were physically together, but this isn't bad.

We’re putting down our 18 year old cat Nova today. She has cancer, and the tumor on her mouth has grown so that she can’t eat. It’s time, and she’s lived a full life, but it’s still so hard.

I had forgotten about this, so I appreciate the reminder. OP's recommendation is to vote Withhold on all 3 candidates, and I've seen that elsewhere too, so that's what I did. You have to be a member and have purchased $10+ in the last year to be eligible to vote.

What a week – I did stand-up comedy without my phone/notes, did the best at an interview I've done yet, and made serious gains in weight lifting. I am feeling exhausted but super happy. I still don't know what the future will hold, but it's looking bright.

Today's interview is likely the last of this job market season for me. If this job doesn't work out, I'll stay a grad student another year to gain more experience & try again next year. I really like the idea of this school I'm interviewing for, though. Hopefully, they will like me!

I'm pretty vulnerable with my students. I write sample essays for them & have written about gender & politics. I also recently performed a stand-up set for them where I talked about my gender & growing out my facial hair. It's scary to be so vulnerable, but I know it's brought our community closer.

I had my students pair up & write a peer profile piece to get to know each other & practice their interview skills before their community research essay. I’m so impressed with these profiles! They really made their peers shine!

My mom found this CD and hid it from me. I stole it back, and then she crushed it. Thankfully, I got another copy. She thought the image on the cover was inappropriate. I think it's fabulous.
