Thinking of this quote from Erikson’s Malazan series today (from Book 2, Deadhouse Gates):

“‘Children are dying.'

Lull nodded. 'That's a succinct summary of humankind, I'd say. Who needs tomes and volumes of history? Children are dying. The injustices of the world hide in those three words.’l

AFAIK the core ADHD features (restlessness, distractibility, impulsivity, hyperactivity early onset) are still those that Crichton described in 1798, so that's that

I have much sympathy for reorganizing the descriptive language used for psychopathology but I have my doubts that these approaches will help us here.

I think most already did and use the "doing a service for the community" cope. Just like I do when reviewing

Cereals with milk is a salad even by fairly restrictive standards and should thus be eaten exactly as shown.

Apart from making the billion dollar corporations that own the journals pay for reviewers, I don't have any ideas either :/

Missbrauchs an Kindern in Deutschland pro Jahr. Und was Organisiertheit und weitgehende Straffreiheit angeht gabs schon vorher die kath. Kirche.

I always treated them like this: apparently someone more skilled in R than me decided that it's a good idea to have them, I won't bother understanding them, and if they act up they get coerced into a data frame.

FWIW in contemporary Q methods I saw some kind of prototype flagging, which can then be followed up with, e.g, interviews to establish this. But that's basically adding another type of assessment.

I completely agree that virtually all these approaches that work with psychometrics alone lack this aspect of functional or mechanistic explanation. I also doubt that this can be resolved by switching from one statistical model to another.

Record of the past or reflection of the present? Fluctuations in recollections of childhood adversity and fluctuations in adult relationship circumstances Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are studied as predictors of lifespan outcomes, yet their reporting is assumed to be stable across time. However,…

Adverse childhood event reports are largely stable but also fluctuate, which is related especially to current relationships with parents. More support or less strain associated with fewer recalled events. Pretty interesting work by @chops310.bsky.social
