Idk, take chances at cons, don't make plans, don't set expectations of how you want others to act, and don't let your enjoyment of a con rest on you fulfilling specific criteria of what you wanted to do at the con. Just let the con happen to you.
This isn't even me saying this as someone with a following. Trust me, you can have a following online and be MISERABLE at a con, and vice-versa. It's a mindset thing. I think it helped being in a foreign country, because I had no preconceived notion of how I wanted the con to go. I was just happy
NFC is the first con where I feel like I did it "right"
Like there were people I wanted to see, and I saw a lot of them, but I didn't stress about not seeing everyone. I connected more with some people. I never felt like I was trying to keep up or like I was left out. It was just fun.
