for me I’ve rewritten large portions of my current setting. I initially made Voltaria using a handful of different 5e supplements to essentially kitbash something for my players.

Now that I’m tackling the setting again I’m working to remove any content from those books and make it my own.

This is a homebrew setting that has been my passion project for like almost 5 years born of love and passion for Soulsborne and Gothic/Lovecraftian Horror. I really hope to run more campaigns/one shots in this setting but I'm excited to share my work and hope you enjoy it just as much as me :D

Still very WIP with some of the stuff but here is a new look at Voltaria the Dreamless City.

As the Howling Scourge becomes a more dangerous threat to the city, its up to the citizens of Voltaria to combat the beasts at their door.

Silver Standard
Uncommon, Trick Weapon (Coin/Shortsword) (Requires Attunement)

An unassuming silver coin with the scratched out head of a wolf on one side and a symbol of a sword on the other. This odd weapon was made by a hunter who always claimed to be blessed by lady luck. When this coin is flipped it transforms into a elegant silver shortsword.

Transforming Weapon. This weapon can alternate between two states Transformed (Shotsword) and Untransformed (Coin). You can use a reaction to alternate between these two forms whenever you choose.

Coin Hurl (Untransformed). You can make a special ranged attack with this coin throwing it with supernatural force at a creature within 30/90 ft. of you on a hit you deal 1d4 force damage. Regardless if you hit or miss the coin reappears in your hand so long as it’s empty.

Cross and Pile (Transformed). after transforming this weapon roll a 1d2. If you roll a 1 you gain a +1 to all attack and damage rolls with this weapon if you roll a 2 you gain a -1 to all attack and damage rolls made with this weapon.

I've been getting back into the groove of designing trick weapons for my setting and this one has been my favourite so far.

Ooo interesting I love the idea of some of those so much! For me I had a decent few written up from something like a dagger which would turn into a spear or a lance that would become a cannon.

Firing Spear
Trickweapon (Spear/Flintlock), Uncommon

A trick weapon of the Sanctified Workshop. Found in the hands of hunters who often play the role of bodyguards or in use of hunters who prowl the vast woodlands surrounding Voltaria.

Transforming Weapon. As a reaction you can alternate between a Veiled (Spear) and Unveiled (Flintlock) forms.

Veiled. In this form the weapon is a spear with the silvered property. When you land an attack with this weapon you can use a reaction to reload the flintlock.

Unveiled. In this form the weapon is a flintlock. You can perform melee attacks with this weapon. You use your Strength modifier for attack and damage rolls and on a hit you deal 1d6 bludgeoning damage.

As a concept I love the idea of trick weapons! Especially with how much fun designing them is.

DMs what are some things you do to make combat more interesting?

I personally love introducing environmental obstacles stuff like pits, fire, heavy rain, etc. it makes players think a bit more tactically about their movement and positioning.
