Worried about #PetrolPrices rising?
Many car journeys are short enough to walk or cycle, and these remain free (and healthy)

The U.S is the largest oil and gas producer in the world.
They overthrew the Venezuelan govβt to exploit the worldβs largest oil reserves.
Then they started a war, constraining Middle Eastern oil and gas supply.
Oil hits $100+ a barrel.
Who gains? America.
Follow the money.
Institutions that make claims about accessibilityΒ or sustainability would be more believable if they cared about stuff like this.
09.03.2026 09:58 β π 9 π 3 π¬ 0 π 0With fuel prices going up rapidly, should we maybe consider encouraging more people to take the train where possible as part of the solution? A monthly ticket giving unlimited travel on local and regional transport for example like some other countries have done?

Absolute tosh.
All new developments need sage, segregated walking and wheeling routes.
Developers should provide no less!
NEW STUDY: βThanks to the influence of the road lobby, the harms of driving are underestimated & overlooked, while measures that make walking, cycling, & public transport the easiest option are viewed with suspicion. Policy responses to reducing population-level drivingβ¦can create positive change.β

Oil prices wouldn't be all over the news today if more of our economy was powered by local, secure renewable energy.
This isn't an "energy crisis". It's a fossil fuel crisis.
44% of UK electricity came from renewables in 2025. More of that plus an electrified economy => no more oil shocks.
People where I live have admitted to hitting flex posts on purpose to make cycle lanes accessible to cars and to discourage cycling. If they can do that without fear of consequence (neither damage to their vehicle nor social, other financial or legal consequences), flex posts aren't up to the job.

This is the London Array, one of the worldβs largest offshore wind farms.
It generates enough electricity to power 584,000 British homes.
Only clean, renewable energy can deliver true British energy sovereignty and free us from the ruinous influence of the fossil fuel industry.
I'm looking forward to seeing what price per litre petrol needs to be before people stop engine idling whilst parked...seems like it must be way too cheap at the moment π

Sarahβs video and this piece really say it how it is. Some of the driving & parking in our area is appalling and has become normalised. Our representatives must take action - children deserve to be protected. #SafeStreetsNow!

The closure of Glasgow Central station is exposing the public transport network's lack of resilience.
At the very minimum, there should be overground stations at West Street and Glasgow Cross, to allow folks to transfer to the Subway and lower-level lines.
We've been talking about this since 2008.
There really needs to be a crackdown on vape shops before more of this happens. They need to be made to store the batteries to a minimum level of fire safety that would likely make it economically unviable.
09.03.2026 06:37 β π 9 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0A screenshot of a newspaper article discussing that there are low cycle counts at rail station cycle parking, suggesting it is because of the risk of theft.
Theft risk is possibly a factor. Other factors include:
π² A lack of safe routes to most stations
π Thereβs a safe store, thereβs no emergency procedure should something go wrong
π³ The main secure store in town canβt be accessed without some force by cargo bikes
Under the numbers there are stories.
Perhaps if oil prices do hit $250 a barrel, weβll see the Anglosphere countries finally catching on to what the Dutch learnt 50 years ago. Primarily that relying on cars for the majority of journeys - short ones under 5mi account for 7/10 and a majority are done by car - is a terrible idea.
