Minnesota is still under seige at the moment and various orgs could use some support. Anne’s matching donations, and any little bit helps.

Why does this look like he was filmed on a greenscreen and they tacked on a fake live background to make it look like they filmed him in public?

Every social theory undergirding Trumpism has been broken on the steel of Minnesotan resolve. The multiracial community in Minneapolis was supposed to shatter. It did not. It held until Bovino was forced out of the Twin Cities with his long coat between his legs.

The secret fear of the morally depraved is that virtue is actually common, and that they’re the ones who are alone. In Minnesota, all of the ideological cornerstones of MAGA have been proved false at once. Minnesotans, not the armed thugs of ICE and the Border Patrol, are brave. Minnesotans have shown that their community is socially cohesive—because of its diversity and not in spite of it. Minnesotans have found and loved one another in a world atomized by social media, where empty men have tried to fill their lonely soul with lies about their own inherent superiority. Minnesotans have preserved everything worthwhile about “Western civilization,” while armed brutes try to tear it down by force.

Last week in Minnesota, I watched ordinary people risk their lives to protect their neighbors. In the process, they not only won a significant—though not final—victory against authoritarianism, they proved virtually every MAGA social theory wrong. (gift link) www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

Noah Smith 🐇🇺🇸🇺🇦🇹🇼 @Noahpinion · 22h It is REALLY WEIRD. I still don't understand it.

John Smith @johnsmithyson0 · Jan 24 It took me like a year to really see enough of it to believe them, but the feminists seem to have been right. A lot of dudes just really hate women. I didn't realize how many.

To be fair, this kind of thing can happen if you've never actually talked to any women.

Absolutely correct: “If our authorities exist for the protection of the people, then the laws should exist for the protection of the people, not the protection of authorities. If the law exists for the protection of authorities, then the authorities do not exist for the protection of the people.”

trump did january 6th. republicans did january 6th. violent traitors did january 6th. they stormed the capitol, destroyed the building and threatened to kill members of congress. ashli babbitt was a violent insurrectionist. the capitol police protected people. these are truths we need to repeat.

There's probably some cultural commentary to be made on the transition from active protagonist guerilla fighter who murders cops to personalityless figurehead and vehicle for rich person's regime change celebrated for other people's bright ideas tbh.

With the new 2025 Robin Hood MGM show, I can't say the take "Robin Hood serves the rich and robs the poor in 2026" is wildly inaccurate. It's halfway there.

We're a long way from the 1938 version's speeches against fascism, protecting freedom, and swearing to fight to the death against oppressors.

Last time at Lowes I had an encounter with two poorly trained shepherd type dogs dragging their human the store, only for them to go off on a massive pony-sized poorly trained malamute type that started bounding about the cramped self-checkout as I tried to pay. It's... bad.

When I heard Mamdani's speech, Bush and 90s era Republicans were immediately who I thought of.

We deserve better than them too.

You are trying to sea-lion so very hard right now. It's almost cute. A 70% corporate tax rate, socialized medicine, and the rich paying their fair share must terrify you a whole hell of a lot.

Keep on bellowing and slapping those flippers. Maybe you'll distract the conversation with someone else.

No, I was thinking the corporate tax rate of 70%, reinvestment in the social safety net, unions, education, and revitalizing our infrastructure with projects to rebuild the middle class but with modern sensibilities and opportunities for everyone.

We can keep the good and lose the bad, you know.

My only issue with age gaps is the power imbalance, which is usually shaken out by 25 after life experience has been gained.

The culture that surrounds an older person (usually male) preying on a younger person's (usually female) inexperience is disgusting.

I swear, this is all some kind of cancerous mutation between climate change propaganda about consumer responsibility and dotcom era treatment of the early internet where corps are just innocent vehicles instead of businesses run by humans who programmed the machine to create this shit. Fuck.

You're right.

The entire US is currently held in a chokehold by one ND asshole's untreated insecurities & abusive behaviors, and I am tired of these activists pretending being ND or NT has any automatic bearing on a person's morality. Stigma, shame, and lack of education are the enemy here.

As a Millenial with a life spent inundated by the "rugged" individualism of "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" I heard what he meant, which is a return to government being a force for public good. And if so? Bring on FDR!

I'm ready for the era of austerity politics to be over.
