Now that we have our own full time space we want to try and do more of these sorts of things. We had been renting space by the hour and most of it was given to classes but now we can do what we want and when. Its nice!
One of our instructors loves Mair and we have done modules on both his Sickle and Staff on a regular basis.
Funny to see that #FioreDeiLiberi is part of #Altered (TCG by Equinox). The quote from the Flower of Battle is accurate. The choice of having him sport a #rapier and a Musketeer outfit is questionable, but good to see a bit of #HEMA permeating some areas of pop culture.
Cool! SERFO is a good time, I went last year but only did LS and spent the rest of the weekend cheering on my clubmates.
Woo! See you there! What tournaments are you doing? I am signed up for open longsword and sword and buckler (something I have VERY little training in so should be interesting)
Ohhh nalbinding? I have a clubmate who is into that and I have eyed it myself but god knows I don't need yet another hobby :)
Ohhh so pretty!
Amazing.
"Why do you want to have a 1970s music pavilion at the Shakespeare festival?"
"It features wine made by the chairman of the Chinese Communist Party!"
"But how does that make it anything to do with Shakespeare?"
"Mao is the vintner of our disco tent!"

I need to buy a messer...
I too have a furry sparring partner
It’s actually FEWER Misérables
Primary day here in Charlotte so doing the poll worker thing like usual.
This for sure! I had no idea #HEMA was a thing before I saw a post on our local FB group for a intro workshop @swordwind.bsky.social was doing and I was hooked. The hardest part is just where/how to advertise. "Come play with swords" sort of sells itself.
Back in the mid 90s I worked at a 4 screen indie theater. We would get, usually older people, who would just come see any/everything and/or call to ask us what each movie was about. This was a fun one to explain: www.imdb.com/title/tt0116...
Our previous dog chewed open a bottle of Advil the cat had knocked off the shelf. Because we had no idea how many if any she had eaten it was off to the vet for overnight fluids and observation. She ended up being fine but still...fun times.
This is some hardcore cyberpunk bullshit. Even William Gibson didn't come up with something this dystopian.
That’s awesome.
Did some more Fairbairn cane stuff last night with the wife, she really likes wailing on the punching bag with it. We also started going though some of the other bits of the book, escaping from 1 and 2 handed wrist holds and such. Hopefully no one saw us since this one might be hard to explain #HEMA
We have this tucked in the back of our fridge so we are ready.....
Few years back a friend and I did back to back viewings of the original 1981 version and the 2009 remake. If you like classic horror at all be sure to check out the original!
We have a bottle of champaign set aside in our fridge in anticipation of the event.
For various reasons my wife was interested in learning some simple cane defense stuff so we started with some simple cane/umbrella drills from "Hands Off! Self-defense for Women" by William E. Fairbairn, which is just slightly modified stuff from his All-In fighting combat manual. #HEMA
Ohhh....now I am excited. I have a ice cream attachment for my stand mixer and love apricot in general. One of my yearly holiday bakes are these apricot squares my grandmother used to make and are one of the things people ask for each year.
Found this post because I just picked up this book last weekend. I am planning to do a project where I make each of the recipes and share photos of my results online. I hope to be able to do as many as possible so hopefully I will get to your grandmothers before too long :)
We do thumbs down because it's funnier.
One of our instructors likes to say the best place to be is "long, strong, and on top" 😀
