I get it. My English classes in school never properly explained semicolons to me either. I have the luxury of a retired newspaper editor in the family who was able to teach me these things and hammered the heck out of my grammar. For those who are struggling with this, here are a couple links...

I suspect this is a myth dreamed up by aspiring writers who don't understand how to use semicolons. (More below.)
PSA: There are a lot of myths which float around the writing community. I just ran into one where people believe that using a semicolon is "risky business", (especially in the first sentence.) because an agent "might get turned off by it".

Saw a video today about why being a 'hater' is a good thing. The video was interesting to a point, but the self-importance this self described "hater" placed upon herself was quite bizarre.

That might hurt at first, but if you're honest with yourself, you'll learn from it. Just don't listen to the people who sell you negativity, because the path to success is not laid with sorrow. It's laid with honest struggle, effort, and hope.

That being said: you do need to take your editor seriously. If they are editing in good faith, they are going to tell you what you NEED to hear, not what you WANT to hear.
Hot take: When getting your book edited, you don't want someone who will tear your work apart. The people who do that are not criticizing in good faith, they are criticizing to make themselves feel superior.
You want someone who will give you HONEST feedback, be it good or bad...
