The Emotional Toll of Diabetes There are millions of people living with diabetes. But did you know that 40% of people with diabetes have skipped or missed a doctor's appointment due to shame or stigma?(1) Together, we can help…

Time to reshare this video on breaking down the barriers that prevent people with diabetes from accessing the care they need.

Above the Stigma. It still gets me!

💬 Remember: Diabetes **isn’t** “too much sugar.”

It’s the body’s struggle to use energy properly.

With the right care and support, people with diabetes can live long, full lives. 💙

3. When People can’t turn Glucose into Fuel:

👉Glucose builds up in the blood. Over time, this can harm your organs.
👉Your cells go hungry. They can’t get the fuel they need.
👉The body switches to “emergency mode”. It burns fat instead, which makes ketones.

2. Where Does Glucose Come From?

Two main places:
👉 From food, such as carbohydrates, fruit, and some dairy, which is turned into glucose after you eat.
👉And from your liver, which stores glucose as glycogen and releases it when you need energy.

Abbott invited me to attend the 2025 European Diabetes Exchange forum and paid for my travel and meals, however, the opinions in this post are my own and were not influenced or reviewed by Abbott.
